Team Ferreira pupil ready to shine in STFC 33 co-main event

MCALLEN, TX – South Texas Fighting Championship (STFC) hits the McAllen Convention Center this Friday night for STFC 33: Bustillos vs. Saldivar. The main event is obviously a good one with Fabian Saldivar (5-1) defending his featherweight belt against undefeated Eduardo Bustillos (4-0) but there are plenty of other reasons to watch this card as well.

One of them is Victor “The Brick” Martinez out of Team Ferreira.

Trained by UFC fighter Carlos Diego Ferreira, Vic “The Brick” is looking to emulate his coach’s success when he takes on Jose Flores (2-0) for the STFC welterweight championship. It should be an interesting fight considering Flores trains with another UFC fighter as well in Frank Treviño but Vic is confident his skills and preparation will carry him to the win. He believes momentum is on his side as well, having won four straight fights to get to this point.

“This means a lot to me,” he says. “I want to win this title and God willing, if I win I hope to start fighting for Legacy.”

“I started (fighting) about six years ago, First I went to my first jiujitsu class just to try it out but I ended up staying for about a year. Then I tried MMA and decided I wanted to compete in it. Now I love everything about being a fighter except the weight cut. Training with Diego (Ferreira) has been awesome and he’s taught me a lot about both (MMA & BJJ). Our gym has a great atmosphere. Everyone pushes each and we don’t give the cold shoulder to anyone. It’s a great environment to train and prepare in.”

When asked about how he will handle the undefeated Flores, Victor is quick to state that his last two opponents were undefeated also.

“I don’t even think about the records too much to be honest. I know he’s a lefty and he trains with Frank (Trevino). Most of his fights finish quick so I don’t really have anything to watch on him and that’s okay. I’m focused and ready to go. I’ve been training hard and feel like I deserve this. Anything can happen but hopefully I get the win by KO/TKO.”

“Thanks to all of my sponsors and Team Ferreira for always having my back. To all my friends and family who support me, thank you. I also want to thank Octagon MMA for giving me the opportunity to go train with them for this fight. Hard work will pay off.”
