MCALLEN, TX, February 23, 2013 – The five year anniversary of Raul Ramos’ South Texas Fighting Championship promotion came and went last night with STFC 24: Bad Blood held at the McAllen Convention Center. The event crowned champions in two divisions on top of the seven card slate.
In the main event of the event, Frank Treviño picked up the STFC welterweight title with a convincing five round decision over an otherwise worthy and game opponent in Joseph Daily. Already the organization’s middleweight champion after defeating Corey Bellino by vicious elbow KO in his last bout, the Muay Thai-based fighter looked to have upped his game even more by dropping down to the welterweight division all while looking to be in the best shape of career so far. With an impressive record of 10-0, he should definitely be a player to watch in the near future both in South Texas and in bigger market leagues as promotions like Legacy and the UFC inevitably give him a well-deserved look.
Also impressive in the co-main event was another undefeated fighter turned champion in Manaus, Brazil native Carlos Diego Ferreira. The South Texas-based fighter/instructor picked up the biggest win in his own young career stopping experienced Danny Salinas by second round submission in their lightweight title bout. The match was actually contested at a catchweight with Salinas coming in eight pounds overweight for the planned matchup but CDF picked up the win and the belt nonetheless despite a close call at the end of the first round where Salinas looked to have flash KO’d him but couldn’t capitalize before the round came to a close. Ferreira recovered quickly in between rounds then used his bread-and-butter jiu-jitsu to overcome his opponent. With this fight now behind him, look for more out of Ferreira in the future as he looks to make his own way into the big leagues.
In any case, another great event from STFC for South Texas fight fans as they continue to grow. Like the two champions crowned at STFC 24, look for plenty more out of the promotion as well as they continue to grow in 2013 and beyond.
