STFC 23 Preview – Carlos Diego Ferreira looking to bring undefeated record up to 5-0 with win over Jorge Cortez

MCALLEN, TX, December 6, 2012 – Undefeated BJJ black belt turned top Texas MMA prospect Carlos Diego Ferreira (4-0) returns to cage action this Friday night at STFC 23. He’ll be one half of the main event scheduled for the McAllen Convention Center as he takes on 4-8 Jorge Cortez.

Ferreira was last seen winning by second round submission over Travonne Hobbs at the UWF Tournament of Warriors Finals card back in June. He also fought a month prior, defeating fellow faixa preta Hector Munoz by first round armbar in their short-notice fight at UWF 2. More recently, CDF was scheduled to face former Legacy FC lightweight champion Ray Blodget at Legacy Fighting Championship 15 this past month before some personal issues put the kibosh on that planned matchup.

Not wanting to rest for too long, Ferreira now face longtime veteran Jorge Cortez in order to stay active. Looking at his record, this should be a severe mismatch as Cortez has only won 2 out of his last 8 fights. Still, he’s been fighting since he made his debut at Saul Soliz’ Renegades Extreme Fighting show way back in 2003 and has fought the likes of Chidi Njokuani, Frank Trevino, and others so he’s not without his own experiences to draw from.

As far as betting odds go, this is probably more like a Chris Reed vs. Robert Drysdale situation (-2000 odds) but it should be an interesting main event nonetheless with plenty of people wondering how Carlos Diego Ferreira has progressed in his overall MMA skill set and whether he is on his way to bigger and better things.

170 lbs.: Joshua Sharpless (0-1) vs Carlos Martinez (1-0)
