Texas State’s Joe Maupin headed into MMA title fight with slugfest on his mind

SAN MARCOS, TX, June 26, 2014 – With 5 fights and 4 straight wins under his belt Joe Maupin is hungry for a big opportunity. He’s eager to prove himself and show what he can. And that’s exactly what he’ll get this Friday night – a chance to prove himself, show what he can do and win his first title in the process when he takes on Chad Box for the PCG middleweight title.

A full-time student at Texas State University and a part-time worker for C.R&T Builders, Joe considers himself just like any other college student in San Marcos. He has an active social life, he likes to go out and enjoy himself, and he likes to see the positive in every situation no matter what.

“I’m usually a happy and positive guy all around. I have had a few rough hardships in my life, but who hasn’t, and I’ve learned not to sweat the small stuff. The world is what you make it. I take time to relax and enjoy my life looking forward to what’s next.”

Joe Maupin has a positive attitude about just about everything, and that includes this upcoming fight with Box, the biggest in his young career.

“I’ve been training mixed martial arts out of Warriors Edge in New Braunfels for about 5 years how under Billy Buch. I also get help from PSMT/RPBJJ in San Antonio and Str8 Training in San Marcos so I’ll be ready. I did have a tough loss my first fight and I was really hard on myself. Since then I’ve been working hard, really hard. I work too hard to lose and I don’t plan on having that feeling again anytime soon. Thank you PCG for giving me a shot and I plan to make it an exciting fight. At the end of the day though, it’s just another fight with somebody new in my way.”

As for his opponent, well Joe had this to say:

“I’ve never heard of him. I know he’s the current champ with a nice mustache that I look forward to punching. He’s got the belt, I want it.  He likes to grind it out and trade punches so let’s do it. This will be an exciting fight for everyone. I haven’t done anything differently (to get ready for Box), but this will be my first scheduled 5 round fight. I don’t see the fight lasting all 5 with both of our fighting styles, but I have taken my cardio up a notch just in case. I’d like to only throw one punch but I’m ready for wherever the fight goes. One way or another, I’m going to get the finish. Thank you to everyone supporting me. Be sure to come out this Friday.”
