Four Title Bouts Highlight Garcia Promotions’ Cage Combat 9; Early Preview of May 25th Fight Card

Aaron Croon (pictured) scheduled to take on Rob "Hellraiser" Butler for GP 145 belt.

HOUSTON, TX, MARCH 19, 2012 – Garcia Promotions recently released the preliminary fight card for their next event, Cage Combat 9, scheduled for May 25th. Now it’s still two months from fight time so as it goes, things will change, but if this card stays true to form for the most part, Cage Combat fans could be looking at the most exciting event yet to be held at the Humble Civic Center. To meet that goal, Eric Garcia and Jace Pitre are planning for four title fights on the evening showcasing some of the top amateur talent from the Greater Houston area – including Beaumont, College Station, and the Woodlands.

Starting at the top, GB Woodland’s Charles Lloyd (2-0) will be meeting American Top Team’s Ryan Spann (3-1) for the GP Welterweight Title. That belt was recently won by Geoffrey Neal (Twin Wolves) when he beat Guilherme Moreira (Twin Wolves) for it in an exciting battle just earlier this month but word is that he is definitely planning on going pro and has vacated the belt. Not it’s up to Charles and Ryan to see who belongs at the top of the heap at welterweight for Garcia Promotions once again.

Also scheduled for a title clash is Team Tooke’s Aaron Croon, the defending champion at featherweight. He’ll be defending that title for the first time since winning it against John Rodriguez this past January against undoubtedly his most formidable challenge yet in Rob Butler, an undefeated 7-0 prospect out of Dallas-Fort Worth. This bout should be very telling as far as where Croon is in his development and could also say the same for Butler, who’s been an amateur since 2009 and could be poised to go pro.

Next up for the Garcia Promotions Flyweight Title is Ryan Hollis (Hard Head Hitters) taking on James Deherrera (Windy). Both of these guys have done well as of late with Hollis scoring a quick submission over Matt Thompson at Cage Combat 8 and Deherrera picking up an exciting decision over Cesar Del Angel at the same event. This title bout should be no different and should present one of the more exciting bouts of the evening come May 25th.

Last but not least in title action at lightweight is Lucas Orosco out of BVMMA. He’s coming off an exciting knockout finish of Kolton Karl Englund in his last bout and remains undefeated at 3-0. No word yet on he’ll be facing in this title bout but we’ll bring you that news as we get it.

The rest of the card is littered with exciting prospects with some familiar names back in action. Former Houston-area amateur champs Ramiro Cortina and Tony Orozco Jr., both out of Silverback Fight Club are back against exciting opponents in Randy McCullough and Cesar Del Angel respectively. Likewise, BVMMA’s Carver Bennett is back and looking to get on the winning track after debuting against a tough Jose Angel Llanas in his first bout. The list goes on and on from there but this is certainly shaping up to be another great event. See below for the entire card as it stands.
