Cage Combat 7 Results, Recap, and Photo Gallery

HOUSTON, TX, January 7, 2012 – The new year for the Houston MMA Scene started off with a bang as Garcia Promotions held the first event of 2012, Cage Combat 7, this past Saturday night at the Humble Civic Center.

The event was characterized by a staggering amount of KO/TKO finishes – all of which provided plenty of work for both FightMedics and St. Michael’s EMT crew on hand. Despite the staggering amount of violence displayed (six striking finishes out of ten bouts), every competitor left the cage on their own power with no serious injuries.

The two main events of the evening featured perhaps the most devastating highlights as Aaron Croon (Team Tooke) and Geoffrey Neal (Twin Wolves) scored the most brutal knockouts of the night over John “Chile” Rodriguez (Silverback) and BC Compton (Hard Head Hitters) respectively.

Croon won the Garcia Promotions 145 belt for his efforts while Neal made a strong case for his own future title shot with his victory.

As for the rest of the card, it provided no shortage of action as only two bouts went the way of the judges’ scorecards – both of which provided plenty of excitement in their own right despite the lack of a finish.

Top Performers

Below are some of our thoughts regarding highlight performances on the evening.

Kendrick Holloway

Fight of the Night – Cesar Del Angel over Daniel Delgado wins this one in our minds.

Knockout of the Night – Aaron Croon wins this one for his devastating finish of John Rodriguez to win the 145 title. Geoffrey Neal was a close second for his KO of BC Compton.

Submission of the Night – Tossup between Trevin Giles and Brandon Hanna for their efforts. Giles absolutely walked through his opponent for the eventual rear-naked-choke win while Hanna withstood an initial assault by Yan Digilov and eventually secured the triangle choke for his own victory.

“Dynamite” Award – Kolton Englund wins this one for his TKO over Alex Melendez in what was a very entertaining first round battle. Both these young fighters showed a willingness to trade strikes in what ended up being a very exciting, albeit short, battle. Brandon Gauthier also showed impressively and would have been in contention for this award had he secured the finish in his own bout.

“Frate Trane” Award – Kendrick Holloway was a ball of fire from the opening bell in his TKO victory over Jake Ivey. Absolutely a breakout performance for him in this one.

Comeback Award – Jacob Silva is first to come to mind for this one as he rebounded from his title loss to Joe Trevino to stop an impressive James Deherrera in the third round of their battle.
