2011 Year in Review – Garcia Promotions: Cage Combat

HOUSTON, TX, December 22, 2011 – It’s been an eventful second year for Eric Garcia’s Cage Combat show in Houston with a total of five amateur events held at the Humble Civic Center in 2011. Let’s take a look at what Garcia Promotions accomplished this year by the numbers in this year end recap.

57 – Total Number of Amateur Fights

7 – Number of Title Fights

2011 Highlights – Knockouts

Three fighters were officially credited with securing victory via knockout this year with each of the three worthy of making any highlight reel. Two of them happened at Cage Combat 4 with Nathan Flack taking out Daniel Everitt and James “Tank” Gonzales getting the KO against Joel Haesecke. Meanwhile, the third may have been the most significant as it came in a title fight at Cage Combat 5 when Guilherme Moreira knocked out incoming challenger Jared Perez in the second round of their contest.

2011 Highlights – Submissions

There were 15 total submissions so we won’t go through them all but there were a few that stuck out in our minds. For example, Charlie Witbeck AKA “Darkness” AKA “The Platypus” AKA “Real Life Wilfred” choking out Zach Scaif to get his first win at Cage Combat 4 was pretty memorable. Likewise with Daniel Delgado getting his win over Dat Nguyen in the third round of their war at Cage Combat 5 and Rob Wood securing the arm triangle to finish off his dominant performance over Joel Rivera at the same event. There are many others probably worthy of mention but perhaps the most important one happened at Cage Combat 5 when Joe Trevino finished Jacob Silva by rear naked choke to win the flyweight title.

2011 Highlights – Memorable Fights

Cage Combat was home to many of the best amateur fights of the state in 2011. Colin Wright vs. Tony Orozco (Cage Combat 5) and David Armas vs Andrew Musquiz (Cage Combat 4) were nominated in the ‘best amateur fight of the year’ category in the 2011 TXMMA Awards while others like the girl fight between Paulina Granados and Ashley Meza and the title fight between Hossan Walker and Aaron Croon were just as exciting.

All in all, many fighters had their moments and every fan had their favorites in 2011. Below are some of ours. Feel free to comment and tell us some of your favorite moments for Cage Combat from the past year as well.
