Armando Servin – Set to Take on Houston MMA Personality in Featured Bout of Legacy Fights in Downtown Dallas this Friday Night

DALLAS, TX, August 9, 2011 – DFW fans! We’re less than three days away from the next rendition of the Legacy Amateur Series at the House of Blues in Downtown Dallas! We posted the updated fight card and bout order here on TXMMA.com yesterday to get us ready for the event. For those of you wondering where the rest our usual coverage (interviews, etc) is, relax, it’s up on LegacyFights.TV. Your usual writer (me) is splitting time between here and there so make you follow there too for Legacy articles and information. For this Friday’s Legacy Amateur event there are already three interviews up with fighters on this card (Joe Selvig, Aaron Culpepper, and Lior Shporen) so feel free to catch up at your leisure follow this article.

Bringing it back to TXMMA, we share this interview with one-half of Friday’s main event – Armando Servin.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with the “The Latin Assassin,” you will come to find that he is quite the intense individual. Self-described as not having much of a life outside the cage, Servin primarily splits his time between Prevalsky’s Boxing and Muay Thai honing his striking and at Alvarez BJJ, where he’s taking the time to hone his ground game with champion competitor/coach Danny Alvarez.

Currently 4-0 in MMA, Armando has quickly become known as a finished with two TKO’s and a submission on his record since deputing in April of last year. Stepping into the main event of the Legacy Amateur Series at the House of Blues this Friday night, Armando will not only be representing himself, but the entire Dallas area, has he takes on Houston MMA Personality Mike “The Truth “Jackson – a lifelong boxer making his return to the cage.

Between “The Truth’s” flash and Armando’s intensity, this should make for one very interesting fight. We’ll be there covering it personality as this culminates in the cage this Friday night so make sure you buy your tickets and see us there!

Armando, thanks for sharing your fight week time with us here at TXMMA.com. How are you feeling heading into this Friday’s fights?

Not a problem at all. Thank you for taking the time to cover my upcoming fight at the House of Blues in Dallas. I feel solid! I’m completely prepared and focused for the task at hand. I eagerly await the opportunity to engage my opponent, Mike “The Truth “Jackson!

Now this is going to be your fifth fight now, and you’re undefeated thus far. It sounds like you’re on your way. What are your goals as a fighter?

I have many short and long term goals as a fighter. I constantly strive to improve and evolve stylistically, physically and mentally as a fighter. The ultimate goal is to fight and succeed among the best fighters in the world in the UFC.

Can you give us a little bit of insight on your training heading up to this fight? What’s it like cross-training at George Prevalsky’s and with Danny Alvarez and crew?

Training at Prevalsky’s Boxing and Muay Thai and Alvarez Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a winning combination. It’s the reason why I am a successful fighter.

George Prevalsky completely addresses my striking needs and wants. He is an excellent striking coach. George has a very scientific and methodical training program specially designed for me, completing my strengths and constantly improving on weaknesses as a striker. A great aspect of George’s Gym is that he openly welcomes fighters of all skill levels, sizes, and gym origins to come spar with us every Saturday. That really allows me to test myself against a great variety of fighter styles and techniques. It’s a definite clear way to keep things fresh and in perspective, forcing myself to evolve.

Danny Alvarez is my Jiu-jitsu and wrestling instructor. He teaches me relevant Jiu Jitsu techniques for combat or cage fighting. I call it no-nonsense Jiu Jitsu. His workouts, drills, and Jiu Jitsu sparring sessions are designed to hone and sharpen my Jiu Jitsu level. I also like the fact that Danny always strives to teach me the latest techniques and Jiu Jitsu tactics he learns himself competing at a very high level Jiu Jitsu competitions like the Mundials.

Obviously this is a passion for you. What is it about the world of MMA that drew you in?

I love to fight!  That’s it ….. no real reason why. I believe it’s in my blood or genetic makeup. I’ve never backed away from a challenge. I like the feeling of being tested mentally and physically against another combatant. There are no words to describe the emotion I feel when I fight. I am in a pure state of bliss. I don’t believe or restrict myself to a style. I am very open stylistically when it comes to a fight. If I need to strike, wrestle, grapple or kick my way to victory, well then that’s what I will do. Whatever it takes or whatever works is the style I use.

Do you have any other interests or hobbies that occupy your time outside of training?

I wish I had a life outside the cage. I don’t have one. <laughs> If I am not training then I like to spend time with my family and friends.

How does it feel to be fighting for Legacy? This is your first time right?

It’s great to be fighting for Legacy. I would like to thank them for giving me the opportunity to fight in their organization. I know they are a Houston-based promotion and have recently signed a broadcasting deal with HDNet so big things should be ahead and it’s an honor to fight for them.

This Friday you’ll be fighting Houston MMA Personality Mike “The Truth” Jackson. What do you know about him so far?

Based on the research I conducted, he seems primarily as a striker. I know little of him personally. I know he has a blog site and quite a following out of Houston.

Without giving away your game plan, how do you see this fight going in your mind?

The only prediction that I can open heartily make is that “I come to fight! The people will be entertained!”

Any last words for Mike “The Truth” before Friday night?

Thank you for taking the fight Mr. Mike Jackson. I look forward to seeing you in the cage.

Any other last thoughts or anybody you want to say thank you to before your fight Armando?

I want to thank all my family, friends, fight fans and sponsors for supporting me. I sincerely appreciate all the help.  I would also like to thank all my trainers and training partners Danny Alvarez, George Prevalsky, Ricardo Soto, Joe Gonzales, Delis  (Cuba) Borges. I would also like to thank all the warriors that have sparred with me at Alvarez and George’s gym.
