Most recent Austin BJJ tounament draws heavy competition statewide despite ACL weekend
AUSTIN, TX – Fight to Win and World Grappling Circuit put on the 2015 Texas Open at the Delco Center in Austin this past October 10th. The BJJ tournament featured many of top teams from Central Texas along with competitors from Houston, Dallas and South Texas.
Leading the way in the individual results were the affiliated group from Team Tooke (Houston) and Team Rabadi (Austin). Winners for that group included William Tackett who won the men’s absolute sub-only blue belt division and his brother Andrew Tackett who won his youth orange belt division. Also scoring points for the group were Hosanna Rull and Cora Sek among others.
As far as the advanced divisions, some of the grapplers who shined included Todd Kornfield out of Catalyst BJJ who won his men’s advanced group while Matt Hernandez from FCFA did the same in his. On the women’s side, BTT’s Patricia Machado and Karen Kovach out of Genesis dueled once again with Patricia winning the day this time around. Ketra Bartek of Gracie humaita was also impressive and won the women’s absolute in the nogi. Also shining in the kid’s portion of the event was Cole Abadi out of RPBJJ who won impressively, beating some opponents much larger than him in the absolute portion of the event.
