Houston MMA Highlights – Looking back at Fury FC 8

Trevin Giles wins big in main event; Fellow prospects also score victories at Fury FC 8

HUMBLE, TX – Garcia Promotions took perhaps their biggest step forward with an exception event held on Oct. 9th, Fury Fighting Championship 8. The event at the Humble Civic Center featured a dynamic main event with longtime Legacy FC vet Larry Crowe taking on a rising young prospect in Trevin Giles out of Elite MMA. Giles delivered on his promise and improved to 4-0 by virture of a TKO win over Larry in the second round. Quicker to the punch and timely with his grappling, Trevin peppered a slowing Larry with punches, connecting with an overhand right that put him down, forcing the ref stoppage. With the victory Trevin now moves to an impressive 4-0 as a pro. At only 23 years of age, Giles could be considered one of the brighter prospects on the regional scene at this point and surely has some bright spots ahead.

Speaking of bright futures, Domingo Pilarte is another one with a bright one in front of him. The 25 year old moved to 5-1 with a first round submission victory over former STFC titlist Javier Obregon. The victory is now Domingo’s second straight this year following a decision loss to Brazilian Caio Machado at Legacy FC 27 way back in January 2014. The Revolution fighter seems to be picking up steam headed into 2016. If one was to venture to guess, next year should really be the time for Pilarte to make a run and really push to get into the UFC conversation – following his friend and likely future in-law, Sage Northcutt.

Another fighter worthy of mention on this card is Team Tooke’s Cameron Graves. A sensation at the amateur level, the 5’11’ featherweight was making his pro debut on this card and did it in victorious fashion, beating slugger “Tank” Gonzales by first round TKO. With a solid mix of striking and grappling, Graves is very much reminiscent of the aforementioned Pilarte but even younger at 21 years of age. Having gone undefeated so far with a grand total of 7 wins in 7 MMA fights, “Camelot” may be another to watch as we head into the next year.

Other big winners at Fury FC 8 include Ike Villanueva, Kolton Englund, and Randy McCullough. Check out the complete results and pictures below.
