Dan “The Beast” Severn to step into the cage one last time to face interim heavyweight champion

20141115092155_bbbbLAS VEGAS, NV – Fabricio Werdum is the man to beat in the UFC’s heavyweight division right now.  He was scheduled to try to unify his interim title at UFC 188 on June 13th but all of that changed with a recent freak bowling accident suffered by Cain Velasquez.  Instead, Dana White and the UFC have scheduled a special title defense.  A highly decorated veteran of the sport and former UFC champion is coming out of retirement to try to strip Werdum of his title.

With a record of 127 wins and 19 losses, the winner of UFC 5 Dan Severn last fought in 2012, a fight he won by unanimous decision.  His storied career has been one of legends, and after brief discussion he has agreed to come out of retirement to recapture the UFC title.  Dana White was relatively conservative when discussing this fight “Severn is one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, he is easily pound for pound the best heavyweight and we are delighted to have him back.  The gate for this will be huge.”

Fabricio Werdum has been preparing his game plan for his upcoming fight against the beast “As we saw in UFC 4, Dan really likes triangles, so I guess I’ll go ahead and give him a triangle.”  Prior to his title run, Fabricio Werdum was best known for ending the reign of Fedor Emelianenko, when interviewed about Werdum vs. Severn, Emelianenko had some choice words “Why didn’t Dana White think to call me up about a rematch?  Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice… Shame on me!”

This fight card is being put together in direct competition with another upcoming battle of greats of the past, Ken Shamrock vs. Kimbo Slice.  In order to further stack the card, the UFC has put some other bouts on the card that may raise some eyebrows including: Yuki Nakai vs. Chad Mendes, Gerard Gordeau vs. Rashad Evans and Harold Howard vs. Stipe Miocic.  Howard had his usual words to say about the fight “We have a saying back home that if you’re coming on, come on!”  TXMMA is not entirely sure what he’s trying to say…

This card is going to give fight fans something special to remember.  Normally, these sorts of fights wind up on Bellator, but on June 13th old school is going to collide with new school in one of the most highly anticipated cards of the decade.
