AUSTIN, TX – CBS Sports’ Titan Fighting Championship made their Texas debut this past Friday, September 26th. Held at the Cedar Park Center in North Austin, Titan FC 30 featured a light heavyweight title fight pitting former UFC fighter and ADCC champ Vinny Magalhaes against fellow UFC vet Jason Brilz. Let’s recap the main card below:

Titan FC 30 – Main Card Results and Fight Recaps

205 lbs.: Vinny Maghalaes vs. Jason Brilz * TITLE

The main event was exciting and ultra-competitive with Jason Brilz working primarily form the top and Vinny Magalhaes content to set things up from his guard for the majority of the bout. The bout was characterized by Brilz’s aggressiveness on the feet and scoring takedowns but he also had to survive a multitude of submission atttempts throughout the duration of the bout. Things finally came to a head in the fourth when Vinny landed a well-timed head kick, surprising his opponent and knocking him tot he floor. He immediately followed up with an arm triangle to his hurt opponent to finish things at the:36 mark of the fourth round.

Result: Vinny Maghalaes over Jason Brilz by Submission (arm triangle), RD4

135 lbs.:  Anthony Gutierrez vs. Walel Watson

Having seen Walel “The Gazelle” Watsond dropped in his last few UFC bouts, it was thought Anthony Gutierrez would do likewise. For his part, Gutierrez started aggresively in his bout before getting his momentum grounded to a halt by virtue of a tight triangle choke to force the tap and give Walel the win at the 3:02 mark of the first round.

Result: Walel Watson over Anthony Gutierrez by Submission (triangle choke), RD1

145 lbs.:  Toninho Furia vs. Robert Washington

Coming in with a 9-fight win streak, Gleristone “Toninho Furia” Santos was certainly a prospect to watch at Titan FC 30. Taking him on was Robert Washington, another striker who wasn’t about to go down without a fight. The two were both game in this bout splitting the first two rounds and fighting a close third with two judges scoring it for the Brazilian to give him the split decision and his tenth win in a row.

Result: Toninho Furia over Robert Washington by Split Decision

145 lbs.:  Leville Simpson vs. Richie Martinez

Fighting out of nearby Killeen, Twin Wolves’ Leville Simpson has quietly put together an impressive pro record since turning pro in November 2012. He improved that even more to 5-1 with his first round TKO over favorite Richie Martinez at Titan FC 30. Simpson imposed his will immediately in this one, powering his opponent to the floor and pounding on him from half guard until he was no longer able to intelligently defend himself. The end came at the 2:56 mark of the first round.

Result: Leville Simpson over Richie Martinez by TKO, RD1

125 lbs.:  Pedro Nobre vs. Nick Honstein

With only one carer loss and 2 draws Pedro Nobre (17-1-2) was thought ot be a big favorite over late replacement Nick Honstein (16-8).  It was a closer fight than expected though as the two traded takedowns and control on the ground for the duration of the three round contest. Nobre was able to squeak out the split decision win to get out of Austin with his plans intact.
