Austin MMA prospects showcase impressive skill set at Naturally Fit Expo’s LAS 17

14763192595_9950c9c717_zAUSTIN, TX, July 29, 2014 – It was an exciting Saturday night at the Natural Fitness Health and Fitness Expo in Austin this past weekend. The annual expo has featured events such as crossfit, bodybuilding and even Jiu-Jitsu in the past. Adding to that, it also included MMA for the first time in 2014. Providing the headline event was Mick Maynard’s Legacy promotion, with the show playing host to Legacy Amateur Series 17. It would be the promotion’s first Austin appearance in roughly four years and it did not disappoint with a vibrant crowd in attendance to take in all the fights at LAS 17.

Legacy Amateur Series 17 featured nine fights in total. Many of the academies local to the ATX participated including AKATX, Ronny Lis BJJ; Cooper MMA; Enlightened Warriors; and Martial Arts of Austin. Representatives from as far as Belton (Grappler’s Lair), New Braunfels (Warrior’s Edge) and even Huntsville (TCOB) amongst others also joined in on the action making this an all-Texas affair in the Texas capital.

As far as fights themselves, they were exciting with some of Central Texas’ top prospects distinguishing themselves with some hard-earned wins. This included the main event of the evening where former standout high school wrestler Peyton Burns notched a decision victory over previously undefeated grappling specialist Garrett Scott to bring his amateur record up to 4-1.

Other fighters who stood out included Branden Chandler who defeated a more experienced Peter Stanonik by first round TKO and Elizabeth Palacios who beat highly-regarded Brittany Robertson by first round armbar to bring her record to 2-0. Also of note was Leroy Montoya who moved up to 3-0 with his unanimous decision win over Kevin Morin.

Check out complete results from LAS 17 below.
