Trio of title fights headline Legacy Amateur Series 16; Some prospects to keep an eye on
HOUSTON, TX, July 8, 2014 – Another installment of the Legacy Amateur Series takes center stage this Saturday with Legacy Amateur Series 16 taking place at the Houston Arena Theater. As the junior partner and developmental arm for Legacy FC, this league has served as the breeding ground for fighters including UFC vet Andrew Craig, Jeff Rexroad, and many others since its inception in2007.
As for Legacy Amateur Series 16 (LAS 16), it should be yet another exciting one as far as matchups and showcased fighters go. The LAS 16 fight card including 3 title fights, including a main event featuring women’s 135 lbs. champion Colbey Northcutt (3-1) defending her title against ammy vet Amy Coleman (5-1).
Fighting out Knoxville, TN, challenger Amy Coleman had won five straight including 4 finishes before losing her last bout by submission. Meanwhile Houston-based Colbey Northcutt has won her last 2 headed into her first title defense. Both these athletes are motivated to make themselves a career in the sport so look for both to come out extremely motivated headed into the largest fight of their young careers.
Also up for grabs in title action is the light heavyweight belt with 38 year old phenom Danny Orr (4-0, Lake Jackson) taking on Houston-based Clovis “CJ” Hancock (2-1). At 38 years old Orr got a late start in the sport but has finished each of his (much younger) opponents by TKO. On the other end the 28 year old Hancock also has two finishes and should be more than game himself.
Last but certainly not least in title action is popular striker Sage Northcutt looking to win his second title vs. highly-touted opponent Trent Parker. Winning his last 4 fights, Sage has seemingly come into his own as of late and looked highly-impressive to say the least in beating Metro FC’s Luis Lara for the lightweight belt this past March. Now he looks to earn his second title in a higher weight class to continue his evolution. Meanwhile Trent Parker has largely flown under the radar since debuting in 2012 but those in the know have seen him look dominant in compiling his undefeated 5-0 record thus far. Long story short, this bout will end with the winner being looked at as undoubtedly one of, if not the top prospect in Texas at the amateur level.
As for the rest of the Legacy Amateur Series 16 undercard, there are plenty of other fighters worth keeping an eye on.
Metro’s Mike Trinh returns against 8-fight ammy veteran Edward Longoria. Hard-hitting rookie Danny Dealejandro returns for his second fight opponent KWMMA’s Garvens Brun. Bi Nguyen (Bebe Laced) also fights against Ashley Milligan in a featured women’s bout plus much more.
