Christopher Marks and Kevin Morin win titles at BOH 6; Roxanna Ceasear wins in main event

AUSTIN, TX, June 23, 2014 – The Enlightened Warriors, led by Nael Chavez, hosted their sixth successful Belts of Honorious amateur MMA event this past weekend at Emo’s Austin. BOH 6 marked the promotion’s return to an indoor venue format, having hosted their past two events under open air at the Nutty Brown Event Center. This time the show moved to Emo’s Austin at 2015 East Riverside Drive and it was a good one.

Belts of Honorious 6 featured 12 fights with three titles up for grabs. The event also featured coverage from Time Warner Cable, which marked the first time Belts of Honorious has had an official broadcast partner.

The post-event consensus from those in attendance is that Belts of Honorious 6 delivered a knockout. Six fights ended by KO, TKO, or referee stoppage. Former TXMMA Amateur Fight of the Year winner Timothy “Blaze” LeComte (2-0) had the most impressive knockout of the night with his victory over Carlos Cerna (0-1). Right after a Cerna takedown, “Blaze” bounced right back up and immediately hit Cerna with a huge right hook that dropped him to the mat to end the fight.

The main event featured two female amateur fighters who have done quite well in the cage, “Ferocious” Fatima Mallet and “Ruthless” Roxanna Ceasear. This time they were fighting for a title belt. Mallett and Ceasear both displayed good stand-up ability as well as versatility grappling on the ground in this one. Late in the third round, Mallett threatened Ceasear with a triangle submission, but Ceasear vigorously defended the triangle submission and escaped. Ceasear went on to win the fight via unanimous decision. This is the first loss of Mallet’s MMA career, which places her at 3-1, while Ceasear moves on to 4-2.

In the other two title fights, the crowd in attendance and those watching from home saw Gravity Fight Club’s Peyton Burns (3-1) suffer his first defeat at the hands of Christopher Marks (3-0) via a second round triangle. Marks is now the new Belts of Honorious 155 lbs. title holder superseding Garrett “The Deaf Grappler” Scott who previously won the title belt at Belts of Honorious III and has since moved on to the pro level. The 125 lbs. title belt is now held by Kevin Morin (3-4), who defeated Blake Wells (3-2) in their rematch from January 2013. Wells suffered a separated shoulder only a minute into the first round. Morin took notice of the injury and instead of capitalizing on Wells, Morin refused to take advantage of the wounded Wells and let the referee step in to stop the fight. Morin received praise from the audience for his decision.

The rest of the card also lived up to form. Notable winners included Justin Ussery (1-0), Federico Olivera (1-4), Cristobal Hernandez (2-0), and Jake Rozek (1-0). They all won by TKO while Jon Leal (3-5) also scored a finish by submission.

With this card in the books Nael Chavez and the rest of the Enlightened Warriors crew will be returning to Austin with their next event tentatively planned for August 8th.
