DJ Fuentes and Jammall Emmers successfully defend their Hero FC belts in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, TX, June 16, 2014 – This weekend featured some professional MMA action in South Texas with JC Productions putting on their second Hero FC show at the Commemorative Air Force Museum in Brownsville. Dubbed Hero FC: Best of the Best 2, this show featured some of the region’s veteran fighters along with some other up-and-comers from Southeast Texas and beyond.

In the main evening of the evening Edinburg’s DJ Fuentes would face Port Arthur native Jose Ceja in defense of his HFC bantamweight belt. It was a gritty effort by the challenger but Fuentes would eventually overcome him in the championship rounds, forcing the TKO stoppage in the fourth. With this win DJ now picks up his second straight victory to stay undefeated in Hero FC and bring his overall record up to 10-9. As for Jose Ceja, it was a valiant effort in his first pro loss that brings him to 2-1 overall.

Also staying undefeated in Hero FC was San Antonio’s Jamall Emmers. Taking on late replacement Chris Pecero (subbing for an injured Luis Vega), Emmers pulled off what has to be considered an upset. “Enigma” (Pecero) entered the bout with over twice as many pro fights as his opponent but Emmers wasn’t intimidated. He was able to nullify Chris’s striking arsenal by taking him to the ground and frustrating him there en route to the third round stoppage. This victory now brings Emmers to 6-1 overall as a pro and also positions him to become one of Texas’ top prospects to watch heading into the rest of 2014.

Another fighter scoring an impressive victory at Hero FC: Best of the Best 2 was Austin, TX fighter Travis Joyner. It took the AKA product little more than a minute to stop Edinburg’s Joe Rodriguez with a ground-and-pound attack set up by a well-timed head kick that put Rodriguez down. He too seems like a fighter to watch as he stays undefeated at 2-0.

In another notable bout, Port Arthur’s Joel Scott finally got retribution over Ricardo Palacios following an off-the-books amateur loss to him over two years ago. It was evident Joel took the bout real seriously this time around. He wasted no time looking for the takedown and hunting for the submission, finishing the bout with a first round kimura for the win.

Rounding out the winners’ circle at Hero FC were Gabe Reynaga, Ray Banda, and Javier Rendon. All three men finished their opponents impressively, all by TKO.
