“Child-at-heart” maturing as a fighter, aims to take yet another step forward at Legacy FC 31

HOUSTON, TX, May 27, 2014 – Now a bit more mature than when he started fighting back in 2009, Alex Black is ready to do some big things. The 6-3 fighter is coming off a big win at Legacy FC 27. He beat a tough opponent (Charles Cheeks) to notch his fourth straight submission win and 5th straight victory. For him it’s a far cry from the three straight losses that plagued him after his pro debut win. With all this said, Mr. Black is now a legitimate [national] prospect and his next fight should be validation of that. Black takes on 4-1 Eric Valdez (4-1) June 13th at Legacy FC 31.

‘I don’t know a whole lot about him,” says Alex about his upcoming opponent. Actually that statement might be just slightly inaccurate if only because Valdez just fought (and beat) Gerzan Chaw in his last fight. Gerzan is a teammate of Black’s since their early days at Bushi Ban and also some someone he considers one of his closest friends. And so Alex got some insight from him regarding his upcoming opponent but he’s still looking at the fight like any other, without any preconceived notions about who his opponent may or may not be.

“I train like I’m fighting the best people in the world. I have to take every fight serious because anyone who can get a spot on Legacy is legit. I feel I can beat him (Valdez) wherever the fight goes. My Jiu-Jitsu will outdo his wrestling if it comes to that. I have a few things planed, but I wouldn’t say I have come up with an actual game plan. I just want to win. I’ll fight my fight and that should do the trick.”

As for the future, the sky is the limit for Alex at this point in his career but he’s not looking past the moment. Classifying himself as a simple person and child at heart, Alex honestly just wants to get through this fight then maybe enjoy a summer that probably includes plenty of time with friends and lots of it by the water.

“I’m a child at heart,” he says. “I don’t like to take life too serious. It’s all about having fun and the people around you. Without my friends, family and support system I wouldn’t be who I am today. Come see me and my teammates fight on June 13th and come see a great show!”
