Daniel Jolly makes statement with big win in main event; Houstonians Reiswerg, Wright and Nguyen all win on IXFA 10 undercard

May 5, 2014 – Texas MMA traveled east this past weekend to compete at IXFA 10, a pro/am MMA event held at Delta Downs Casino in Vinton, LA. IXFA promoters Chris Reed and Scott Dawson are both from the Houston area so it’s not surprising that much of the card was made up of Texans. Ultimately it was a good one with several of those fighters getting some much needed wins.

The IXFA 10 main event featured Austin’s Daniel Jolly aka “The Werewolf of Texas” going up for his first pro title opposite Longview’s Josh Foster. There was a lot riding in this one for the two light heavyweights. For Jolly, it to be his toughest challenge yet as he looked to stay undefeated. Meanwhile Foster was going for his third win in a row and fifth out of his last six. It was supposed to be a competitive one but ultimately Jolly’s size made all the difference in the world as the naturally stronger fighter was able to stay away from his opponent’s punching power and control the fight on the ground to gain the unanimous decision victory. With this win Daniel now stays undefeated at 5-0 and has undoubtedly made his case for top light heavyweight prospect currently fighting out of Austin, Texas.

In the co-main event Houston’s Antonio Flores fell victim to a third round elbow KO at the hands of Lake Charles, LA native Marcus Andrusia. Word on the street is that Flores was suffering from the ill-effects of having the flu earlier in the week and was unable to move like he wanted to. Andrusia now becomes the IXFA lightweight champion while Flores drops to .500 with a 5-5 record after being largely inactive throughout the last few years, not taking more than one fight a year since 2007.

Else on the professional portion of the card two more Houston residents would experience more success.

Justin Reiswerg

First up, 26 year old Justin Reiswerg was able to improve to 7-3 with his first round submission over DFW resident Jacob Capelli. “Wolverine” didn’t waste any time controlling things in this one. He was attacking a head-and-arm choke early on in the bout before an untimely standup from the referee halted his momentum. It didn’t take long for him to latch onto another though as he ultimately ended things by triangle choke before the first round bell marked the end of the round.

Next up at IXFA 10 for Houston was Colin Wright (Paradigm TC) finally getting his first pro win over LA native Isaiah Lewis. This win was a long time coming for Wright. He went 6-0 as an amateur after starting in 2010 and was highly touted going into his pro debut in 2012. Two losses later and he was on the outside looking in but may have changed his luck starting with this one.

Also winning out of Texas was San Antonio’s Gilbert “Pitbull” Jimenez winning by second round guillotine choke over Beaumont’s Joel Scott along with 4OZ Fight Club’s Bee Nguyen (aka Bebe Laced) who won by unanimous decision over Devaney Clayton on the amateur portion of the fight card.
