Resilient Dan Henderson rocks Shogun to complete comeback at UFC Fight Night 38

NATAL, Brazil – UFC Fight Night 38 happened last night at the Ginásio Nélio Dias arena in Natal, Brazil. Two former champions were featured in the main event with former UFC 205 lbs. champion Maurico “Shogun” Rua taking on former two-time Pride FC champion Dan Henderson in a rematch of their first exciting bout at UFC 139. This fight night card also featured plenty of local Brazilian talent for the local fans including Cear Ferreira, Leonardo Santos, Rony Jason, and Ronny Markes. It was also home to some incredible upsets featuring some of those fighters.

10015658_10152285406121276_1020920697_nAs in their first fight, the main event between Shogun and Henderson was back-and-forth with both men having their opportunities to finish. Henderson was the first to hurt Rua with a big left hand in the firs but Shogun countered well and hit Dan with a combination that sent him to the ground. Shogun followed him down but was unable to finish as the American recovered before the end of the round. Shogun would then drop Henderson again with an uppercut in the second round but again was unable to put him away. It would then be Henderson’s turn in the third as he caught Rua with a picture-perfect right hook that found its spot right on Shogun’s nose. Dan followed him down to finish with a series of hammer firsts to force the ref stoppage and finish off the upset.

With the win, Dan Henderson showed that at 44 years old he’s still not going away and the power is still there.

Speaking of someone else not going away, CB Dollaway also showed he’s still a presence in the middleweight division with his TKO victory over Cezar ‘Mutante’ Ferreira. It took all of 39 seconds for Dollaway to achieve the finality with a counter right-left combination that dropped Ferreira. Some quick GNP later and it was all she wrote.
