Several top Texas amateur prospects look to impress at Belts of Honorius 4

AUSTIN, TX, February 19, 2014 – Nael Chavez and his Enlightened Warriors crew return to cage this Friday night as they put on Belts of Honorius 4 at the Nutty Brown Amphitheater located just off HWY 290 in West Austin, This will be their first fight card of the year following three events in 2013. With a fresh start in mind they’re looking to put on even bigger and better shows starting with this one in 2014.

The main event of the evening features 23 year old Joe Maupin out of Rodrigo Pinheiro BJJ / Pete Spratt Muay Thai in title action as he takes on fellow challenger Gabriel “El Gallo” Rodriguez. The San Marcos based Maupin carries a two-fight win streak into this fight with both of his last bouts coming impressively by way of TKO in under 30 seconds. We don’t know nearly as much about his opponent, who has no recorded fights in the MMA.tv database heading into this bout. With that being said, Joe may know as much as we do at this point so it should be an interesting scenario as he goes in to battle the unknown.

Another interesting bout set for Belts of Honorius 4 showcases two up-and-coming female fighters out of Texas in Fatima Mallett and Sarah Boyd. Mallett made her debut at BOH 3 winning an impressive decision over Kourtnie Goodman. Boyd lost against Julia Ottolino at BOH 2 but frankly, Julia is a much more physically imposing specimen and a fast-riser in her own rite so this bout against Fatima should prove to be a much better indicator of Boyd’s MMA potential when all is said and done.

Moving on, the card features several other fighters we’ve got our eye on as well when it comes to Texas prospects. Two of them come by way of the DFW area in Levi Mowles and Mark Delarosa.

A finalist for our 2013 TXMMA Amateur Rookie of the Year award, Levi Mowles went 3-0 with 3 finishes in 2013 and is looking to do even more this year. He’ll be facing another reasonably experienced amateur in Angel Delgado (3-1) so this fight will be an interesting one. Will Levi’s experience last year coupled with his grappling chops provide him with another dominant victory or will Delgado upset the apple cart?

As for Mark Delarosa, he’s walking into a fight with a 1-0 record following his win over Avishai Malke at BOH 3. Despite his rookie status Mark trains regularly with top pros at Genesis and with Marc Laimon and crew at Team Takedown so he’s more well seasoned than he appears and just needs to get the reps. He’ll get that at Belts of Honorius 4 when he faces 1-2 Shawn Castillo, a fighter who’s lost two out of three bouts by submission. Take that with a  grain of salt but he’ll certainly walk in as the heavy favorite.
