Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza score convincing decision wins

February 16, 2014 – UFC Fight Night 36: “Machida vs. Mousasi” took place this past Saturday in Santa Catarina, Brazil. There were 12 fights total between those televised on FOX Sports 1 and those on Fight Pass. With that, the long night of action produced some expected results specifically for the middleweights.

Middleweight contender Lyoto Machida may have moved to the front of the line to face the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort, scheduled for UFC 173 this May. Gegard Mousasi had no answer for the same speed, timing and accuracy that’s gotten so many opponents before in their main event fight as Machida walked away with the near sweep on the judges’ cards when all was said and done.

He had an arm injury going in but battled through to win the decision on this one. Next up for him is surgery but  he’ll likely face someone like Luke Rockold or even Machida when he’s back as he looks to keep climbing the divisional ladder.

UFC Fight Night 36 also saw a pair of one time ‘can’t miss’ prospects in Erick Silva and Charles Oliveira win. Silva finished his fight with Takenori Sato in short order with a first round knockout while Charles put away Andy Ogle with a triangle choke in the third.

A unanimous decision win by Nicholas Musoke over Viscardi Andrade rounded off the action on Fox Sports 1.
