Leonard Garcia wins Legacy FC Featherweight Belt; Thomas de Almeida impresses to remain undefeated at Legacy FC 26

SAN ANTONIO, TX, December 11, 2013 – Last weekend at Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio marked the end of the year for the Legacy Fighting Championship. Mick Maynard and crew arrived into town hoping to put on a great show and they did with only two of the nine bouts reaching the judges’ scorecards while the rest were ended conclusively before the final bell at Legacy Fighting Championship 26.

Highlights included the Legacy Fighting Championship 26 main event where UFC vet Leonard Garcia made his strongest case yet to be let back into the octagon with his first round TKO of previously undefeated East Texas native Kevin Aguilar. An underdog on some betting sites heading into the bout, Garcia made short work of “The Angel of Death,” scoring on a perfectly-timed uppercut to put Kevin down as he was coming in before pouncing on him and forcing the referee stoppage. “Bad Boy” Garcia now holds the Legacy FC featherweight belt and has stated that he will take on all comers unless he gets the call to go back to the UFC where he holds numerous FOTN awards and the distinction of being one of the promotion’s most exciting fighters ever.

Meanwhile another fighter making a statement at Legacy Fighting Championship 26 was undefeated Brazilian Thomas de Almeida. The 22 year old Sao Paulo native proved to be every bit as dominant as his 14-0 record going into the bout with Geo Pacurariu indicated, dominating the Romanian-born Texan in the striking department en route to the first round TKO. At 15-0 overall, “Thominhas” should now be considered one of the top bantamweight prospects in the world. No word on whether he stays in Legacy FC or not but if so, he’ll have no shortage of exciting potential opponents – including fellow LFC 26 winner Patrick Ybarra, Damacio Page, and Angel Huerta for starters. As of now Dallas-based Matt Hobar holds the 135 lbs. belt and this is certainly one of the most crowded divisions on the Legacy FC roster, to say the least.

Other winners at Legacy FC 26 include the aforementioned Patrick Ybarra who earned his win over touted rival Ray Rodriguez and local favorite Billy Buch who earned a disputed decision over Galveston native Ryan Hollis. A local bout pitting Dimitre Ivy vs. Matt Mazurek completed the main card with Ivy scoring a submission win in the night’s opener.

Meanwhile on the untelevised undercard it was “Texas Werewolf” Daniel Jolly scoring the biggest knockout of the night to win that honor in under 20 seconds over College Station’s Matt Steward while Kevin Troyer and Daniel Pinheiro completed the night’s winner’s circle with wins over David Siller and Joe Reyes respectively.
