Lauren Murphy prepares for bantamweight title shot; Faces Miriam Nakamoto at Invicta 7 this Saturday night

1470091_10152129661156060_2128852314_nHouston, TX, December, 3, 2013 – This Saturday undefeated mixed martial artist who trains out of Gracie Barra Katy, Lauren Murphy (7-0 MMA ), is set to step into the cage in Kansas City, Missouri for Invicta FC 7. She is facing skilled Muay Thai veteran Miriam Nakamoto (2- 0 1NC) in a title bout in the 135 division.

Murphy started training in 2009 after enrolling her son into a Jiu-Jitsu class, six months later; with no amateur fights under her belt she had her first fight as professional. She is now 7-0, and looks at moving forward in her career.

TXMMA did a brief interview with Lauren Murphy about her upcoming fight.

When asked what she thinks will be different at this point in her career she responded “My opponent, my skill level, the purse, the fact that it’s for a title, the length of the fight, the amount of cardio I have done, the number of fans I have, the amazing amount of supporters that are coming to the fight…really nothing is the same. I’ve trained hard and have done everything I can do to prepare myself, that’s about the only thing that’s the same as my other fights. “and that her plans in the sport are “take it as far as I can. I just want to be the best I can be, fight the best females on the planet, meet a lot of people, travel new places, and live as much as I can. “

Getting ready for a war Lauren Murphy added this on her thoughts about the fight “We’re going to beat the [expletive] out of each other. I think it’s going to be a war. Nakamoto has great Muay Thai, and I’ve got a great chin and can take a beating. I hit hard and I know if it goes to the ground, her blood is going to be all over the floor of that cage. We both have a ton of heart and neither of us is going to quit until someone makes us. Who doesn’t want to see that?”

Leaving us with her future plans “after the fight on the 7th of December, I am going to go home to my husband and spend the rest of the holidays with him. It’s really all I can think about. After that, I don’t really know. There’s too much crap that can happen between now and then, that affects what I do after that. “

Lauren would like to thank, in her own words “I want to thank my team at GB Katy, especially my coaches, Skylar McMellian, Fillimore, Sheehan, T, and Wesley Preston. Thanks also to Ted Stickle, the Mangos, and everyone who comes in and rolls with me, wrestles with me, participates in my shark tanks, and talks me down when I need it. American Knockout Wear for sponsoring me for this fight, please go to their site Akowear.com and get you a Lauren Murphy t-shirt or any of the other cool shiz they have there. Part of the proceeds from my t-shirts go to a charity here in Houston, so you’ll have a cool shirt and good karma. Thanks to my husband Joe, you’re awesome and I love you babe.

Invicta FC is an all-female mixed martial arts promotion. Tickets and live streams of fights can be purchased at InvictaFC.com.
