Texas amateur prospect Kevin Holland taking final step before transitioning to the pros; Facing Julius Holmes for PCG welterweight title Nov. 23 in San Antonio

Fort Worth, TX, November 14, 2013 – Fort Worth based fighter Kevin “Trailblazer” Holland (Amateur MMA 4 -0) is an exciting young prospect that is preparing for his fifth and final amateur bout before turning pro. He is planning to fight at Premiere Combat Group’s upcoming Cowboys Extreme Cagefighting (CEC) event in San Antonio on November 23rd.

The undefeated Holland trains primarily out of Team Lutter, and was recently invited by Floyd Mayweather’s The Money Team to be the first MMA fighter to train at Mayweather’s Boxing Club. Holland is a young, brash and talented up-and-comer and people are starting to take notice.

When asked about his plans for the future Holland responded as such, “It’s hard for me to look past my immediate task However, I see myself mastering my craft, becoming a champion and maybe opening my own gym one day, having fun, getting good fights and being the best I can be.” Right now the task at hand is winning a welterweight championship belt.

Holland is looking to add one more fight to the win column and keep his “O” perfectly round when he takes on Julius Holmes for the PCG 170 pound title. Holland feels like he is a well-rounded athlete who can only get better with experience. We asked him where he felt most comfortable inside the cage and what his strongest asset was when facing an opponent; “its my ability to adapt and adjust during the fight. I faced a lot of adversity growing up, so that helps me get to a higher level of focus and determination that I probably wouldn’t have without those experiences,” said Holland. Trailblazer is looking forward to taking another step towards the realization of his dreams and right now Holmes is in his way. Holland is not taking Holmes for granted and is conscious of the fact that he might have to work extra hard against Holmes’ grinding style. “My opponent is a wrestler, so unlike my last fight, which ended in a knockout, I probably have to use more of my ground game,” Aside from having to use counter-wrestling to keep things standing Holland also believes the fight “will be all over the cage,” but all he cares about is that end he gets his hand raised.” When TXMMA asked if there was any chance Julius could beat him, he responded “Every fighter is tough and has a chance. So I train hard to make sure we lower the chance of that happening.“After this fight Holland will be done with amateur bouts and progress to professional fighting to “see what’s out there.” He will be making the move to Mayweather’s Boxing Club in Las Vegas, NV in January.

Holland gives thanks to Travis Lutter, Mark Kennedy, Troy Dorsey, Wesley Gann and the whole Team Lutter Gym, TBA Sports and Entertainment Honor Fight Gear for all their support. Premiere Combat Group is a New Braunfels based amateur mixed martial arts promotion. Tickets for the upcoming card can be purchased at cowboysdancehall.com.
