LFC 25 Results – South Texas fighter shine at top of the card

HOUSTON, TX, November 16, 2013 – What an exciting night of fights last night at Legacy Fighting Championship 25 in Houston!

Featuring a title fight up top in the light heavyweight division featuring defending champion Jorge ‘Macaco’ Patino taking on Carlos Diego Ferreira along with eight other fights with the main card broadcast nationally on AXS TV, LFC 25 was once again a showcase for one of the nation’s top up-and-coming promotions and some of Texas’ best prospects.

Carlos Diego Ferreira beats Macaco Patino, wins Legacy FC lightweight title

In the main event of the evening it was indeed a coming out party for undefeated Carlos Diego Ferreira as he bested Jorge Patino via a convincing five-round unanimous decision to become the Legacy FC lightweight champion.

Before the bout Diego had said that Macaco was a hero of his.

“It’s really an honor of mine to fight him. I saw a lot of years of him fighting vale tudo (when I was younger). When I watched him fight, I fell in love with MMA and jiu-jitsu. With everything he has accomplished, to beat him is a true honor for me.”

Carlos Diego Ferreira used a mixture of styles to take this one, nearly finishing Macaco several times with spectacular head kicks, knees, and punches. Patino was dropped several times but for his sake, he never let up despite a potentially broken jaw and did well early on in the fight. Ferreira just proved himself to be stronger and more game in the long run.

With this win Carlos Diego Ferreira now moves to 9-0 and caps off an impressive year that also included wins over previously undefeated Chris Feist and UFC veteran Carlo Prater.

Frank Trevino validates hype as one of Texas’ top prospects; Moves to 11-0 with win over Lester Batres

Prior to Friday night there was a lot of chatter concerning Frank “Sitkayan” Trevino and his unbeaten 10-0 record heading into Legacy FC 25’s clash with Lester Batres. Skeptics, mainly those who have never seen him before pointed to his record of fighting predominantly in South Texas and said he hasn’t really fought anybody before. Meanwhile those from the RGV swore up and down that he had skills and that his record wasn’t a fluke. …That this guy was the real deal.

It turns out they were right.

Frank made do on his pre-fight statements that he would prove to be better everywhere than Lester Batres, one of Houston’s most underrated yet most respected prospects. He called Batres predictable when training partners including UFC and Bellator fighters plus more said he was he was anything but. Come fight time though he made perception a reality by controlling the clinch, scoring timely takedowns, and hitting his mark on his striking combinations more often that his opponent.

In short he made do on his pre-fight hype and now moves to an impressive 11-0 in professional MMA.

With he and Carlos Diego Ferreira (both STFC champions headed into Legacy FC) both winning at Legacy FC 25, it certainly serves notice that South Texas isn’t just another side city compared to Houston and Dallas. Some of the best of the best fighters in the state hail from there.

Not a bad night for South Texas at all.
