Texas Pride Event Preview; Cody Williams seeking third straight win in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX, September 27, 2013 – This weekend’s professional MMA action in focus for the lone star state comes by way of Southeast Texas with Beaumont hosting JC Production’s “Texas Pride” MMA event at the Montagne Center At Lamar University. The SETX fight card is set to feature ten bouts total and is headlined by popular local Cody “Wolverine” Williams taking on undefeated Brandon Ruiz along with a whole host of regional fighters along with some others from as far as San Antonio and the Austin area.

The first pro fighter to come out of the Beaumont area, Cody Williams returns to his home city looking for his third straight win. He last competed back in May, beating D’Angelo de Souza Vieira by first round TKO at Pride of the Valley 2. He defeated David Armas at IXFA 9 prior to that and will now look to extend his streak against Brandon Ruiz, undefeated at 3-0 after a lone win in his one fight amateur career. Ruiz’s pro opponents thus far represent a combined record of 2-12 so it’s safe to say Williams will no doubt be his biggest challenge yet in this one.

Another matchup to look forward to on this card is Dayton, Ohio native Brett Ewing taking on Killeen’s Jamall Emmers. These two 24 year olds are two of the more experienced fighters on this card and are jockeying to climb their way up the mythical state rankings with a win here in Beaumont. Emmers in particular is one to watch with two straight wins heading into this fight. Meanwhile, Ewing will be looking to bounce back after getting his own two-fight win streak snapped with a 2nd round TKO loss to Antonio Castillo Jr. (7-4) in his last fight this past August at an NAAFS event up in Cleveland, Ohio.

As for the rest of the card, there are some other notables to keep an eye on.

One of them is American Top Team Beaumont’s Ryan Spann, who’ll be looking to bring his pro record to an impressive 4-0 against debut fighter Jhonoven Pati. “Superman” Spann has three submission finishes in his first three bouts so he’ll no doubt be looking for another in this one. Devin Christopherson will also look to stay undefeated against journeyman Mark Garcia after two first round wins at IMKF while San Antonio’s Billy Buch looks to break a two-fight losing streak against another journeyman in David Salazar.

Check out the full card for “Texas Pride” below. Feel free to sound off on our TXMMA Facebook Page with your thoughts on this card as well.
