Elite MMA’s Zach Henson hoping for success in amateur debut

HOUSTON, TX, September 27, 2013 – Next Friday night, October 4th at the Humble Civic Center in Northeast Houston will be a long time coming for Elite MMA’s Zach Henson. He’ll finally be making his MMA debut against GB Champions’ Darius Gray at Garcia Promotions’ Cage Combat 15 and it couldn’t come at a better time.

The 26 year old Killeen native moved to Houston at the end of 2011 to finish up his college degree in psychology major but ended up with way more when he found himself training at Elite MMA’s Westheimer academy. He’s been consistently training MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since then, planning to fight several times but it (a planned fight) never quite panned out until now.

“I think my attitude and toughness will gravitate people to want to watch me grow as a fighter and a person,” he says. “My mindset isn’t win or lose, it’s entertain and excite. I’m fighting for the fans I know what it’s like to watch exciting fights that have the wow factor. I want to grow into that type of fighter.”

Like his opponent Darius Gray, Oct. 4th will be the first time Zach Henson will be stepping in to compete in MMA but he believes he will be much readier than most in his position.

“This is my first fight but this isn’t my first fight camp. I’ve gone through multiple camps with my awesome teammates and my last fight was actually cancelled at the weigh in due to my opponent not having blood work. Our camps (at Elite MMA) are always very broad and detailed but this one was definitely the toughest. My coaches and teammates pushed me to my limits physically and mentally. I’m prepared for every aspect this fight can go.

I’m a super competitor. I don’t like to lose. And I work hard to make sure that doesn’t happen. But I’m fighting to bring excitement to the fans like I said before. I want them to know my name and want to support me no matter what gym they attend. If I don’t put on a good fight and its one sided then I feel I’ve failed win or lose. As long as the crowd cheers and my hand is raised then I’ll accept it!

Thanks to everyone who helped during this camp all my team at Elite MMA and all the people who traveled to see me fight. Your support means everything!”
