Carlos Diego Ferreira maintaining a torrid pace as he climbs MMA and BJJ Rankings
Edcouch, TX, September 25, 2013 – They say there’s no rest for the wicked but apparently there’s no rest for hard-working athletes either when it comes to up-and-coming prospects in the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts.
Such is the case with Legacy Fighting Championship 24 combatant Carlos Diego Ferreira.
We last featured Carlos Diego Ferreira (CDF) this past July following his win in Corpus Christi at Legacy FC 17 over noted veteran Carlo Prater. Incredulously after that win (the biggest of his MMA career to date), CDF didn’t go out and celebrate. He didn’t set out to have a few beers and enjoy the infamous Corpus Christi bar scene. He took a moment to breath then drove straight to the airport to hop a flight to Long Beach, CA – competing in the 2013 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championships against the best that sport has to offer as well, all on less than a day’s rest.
More recently Ferreira has offered himself no rest.
Continuing on with what is becoming routine for him, Carlos Diego Ferreira spends his weeks training students at his Team Ferreira academy in South Texas then hits the road to compete in prize money black belt divisions at tournaments all across the state on the weekends. Those serve a dual purpose of helping pay the bills and also honing his skills, but also help him feed his passion of testing himself for love of the game.
Carlos Diego Ferreira earns 1st Place Finish US Abu Dhabi World Pro Trials; Working on affiliation with Andre Galvao and Team Atos
Last weekend Carlos Diego Ferreira competed at the Abu Dhabi World Pro Trials – US West Coast Edition, held at the CSU Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, CA. Facing a division (167-180) that included top names like Magid Hage and Tanner Rice was tough but in the end CDF came out with the gold and plane ticket to compete in the 2014 Abu Dhabi World Pro Championship to be held in the UAE.
“I’m just super excited to have qualified and have the opportunity to go,” he says. He acknowledges that tournament to be one of the biggest challenges he’ll face in his career but one he’s eager to prepare for.
In preparation for that and other tourneys, Ferreira may just get some added support.
Aside from support from sponsors like Wartribe Gear, Shoyoroll, Vitamin Shack & Shakes, Caribella Homes, and Windshields Xpress, he’s also spent the better part of last week in San Diego, training with Andre Galvao, Keenan Cornelius, and team at Team Atos.
“We are in the process of hopefully closing this deal and becoming an affiliation… I think that Atos is one of the best BJJ gyms in the U.S and being under Andre Galvao is going to be really good, he is the best at what he does and I’m ready to improve my skills and become a better instructor for my students as well.”
Legacy Fighting Championship 24 on deck; Ferreira prepared for Oct. 11th Clash with Undefeated Chris Feist
Fresh off the heels of his 1st place finish in the Abu Dhabi Trials, Ferreira is already off and training for his next competition, this time on the MMA circuit as part of the Legacy FC 24 main card scheduled for October 11th in Allen, TX.
Currently undefeated at 7-0, CDF will be taking on fellow undefeated prospect Chris Feist (8-0, Team Takedown) in a welterweight battle that will conceivably decide the next title challenger for the belt currently held by Jorge Macaco Patino. Once again he is facing the biggest fight of his career.
“I’m ready to get back in there. I’m just pumped and I want to thank Mick (Maynard) and Legacy for giving me the opportunity to fight, Legacy is an awesome company and I’m very happy to be fighting for them and helping me make my name in MMA.
I know he (Chris Feist) is hungry and wants this fight more than anything… but I as well want this more than ever. I know we are both going to give it our all and going to put on a good show for everybody, with a lot of heart. I’m excited for it.”
“I’m going keep training hard and come into this and every fight the best I can be, for MMA and BJJ. I’m always looking to improve and at the end of the year I just want to be satisfied with every fight knowing that I did all I could. I got a full plate up ahead and couldn’t be more excited. My next tournaments/fights are Legacy FC 24 on October 11th then possibly the IBJJF Miami International Open – October 19th. I’m also competing in the BJJ Classic 8-man black belt pro division on October 26th and then the World Jiu-Jitsu No Gi Championship on November 2nd & 3rd after that. Let’s go!”
