The “King of the Ring” remains undefeated; Tyrone Spong picks up decision win at WSOF 4

ONTARIO, CA, August 12, 2013 – 27 year old Surinamese-Dutch kickboxer turned MMA fighter Tyrone Spong remains undefeated in professional mixed martial arts after scoring a unanimous decision in the main event of World Series of Fighting 4 last night at the Citizen’s Bank Arena in Milford, Connecticut.

The kickboxing world champion debuted with a convincing knockout win over Travis Bartlett back at WSOF 1 last November but didn’t get the knockout in his second go-around in the cage. Facing a tougher-than-expected opponent in Angel DeAnda, Spong did manage to land a ton of chopping leg kicks in the fight en route to the unanimous decision win.

Meanwhile in the co-main event, world-ranked bantamweight Marlon Moraes won handedly over his opponent Brandon Hempleman. The win gives Moraes his first straight victory and third straight in the promotion including past wins over Miguel Torres and Tyson Nam.

Elsewhere on the card, former XFC product and congenital amputee Nick Newell managed to make his WSOF debut a successful one with a first round guillotine submission win over Keon Caldwell while Ray Sefo didn’t fare so well in his own comeback attempt as he fell by second round TKO to Dave Huckaba. With this loss, “Sugarfoot” Sefo is expected to resume his duties as WSOF President.

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante took a controversial third round TKO win over Tyson Griffin to open the action on NBC Sports while Gerald Harris picked up a unanimous decision over Jorge Santiago in the featured undercard bout.
