UFC 163 Results – Jose Aldo Defends Belt; Phil Davis Takes Decision Over Lyoto Machida

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 4, 2013 – UFC 163 has now come to a conclusion from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

At the top of the card, Jose Aldo was able to defend his belt after an unlikely injury to challenger Chang Sung Jung (shoulder popped out of socket) stopped him short of any type of comeback. Prior to that point Aldo had won every round but TKZ seemed to be coming on strong looking to turn the tide. Unfortunately for him that opportunity never came and the champion capitalized a just the right moment to seize the TKO victory. Aldo leaves the arena the same way he came in, as the undisputed UFC featherweight champion while “Korean Zombie” leaves as popular as ever with many fans already calling for a rematch between the two.

As for the co-main event of the evening, Phil Davis picked up what could only be described as the most significant win in his career over Lyoto Machida. He appeared to be losing the majority of the striking exchanges in all three rounds of this fight but key takedowns at the end of rounds one and two were apparently enough to cause the judges to  see things his way as “Mr. Wonderful” picked up the unanimous decision win in this one.

Elsewhere on the main card, TUF Brazil 1 winner Cezar “Mutante” Ferreira picked up his first UFC win in a year over Thiago Santos while fellow Brazilian Thales Leites made his successful return to the octagon with a win over Tom Watson. Flyweight contender John Lineker completed the winners’ circle on the main card by virtue of his second round TKO over Jose Maria Tome.

Below are the complete UFC 163 Results from Rio.
