Superior Combative Championships this Friday; Middleweight Title Fight To Headline Galveston MMA Offering

GALVESTON, TX, July 30, 2013 – This Friday night at Superior Combative Championships 4 (SCC 4) should no doubt be an exciting night of action given what we’ve seen before from this event. Like on its last card, SCC 4 also features a title fight in the main event, this time in the middleweight division with local Galvestonian Andrew Martinez taking on incoming challenger Chad Box.

Andrew Martinez (3-0) should be familiar to a good portion of the crowd already fighting out of Jason Carter’s Furia Training Center in nearby Dickinson, TX.

Fighting out of Joshua, TX just south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Chad Box may be unfamiliar to the SCC crowd as of yet but he’s had a good amount of experience coming into this fight, including a title win against Travis Moore at San Antonio’s Premiere Combat Group promotion to end this past year.

We recently spoke to Chad to get his thoughts on his upcoming main event fight versus Martinez at Superior Combative Championships 4.

SCC 4 Pre-Fight Interview – Chad Box

Chad, tell us a little about yourself – not just MMA but everything about you.

Well I’m 24 year old. I have three kids. I am all about competing whether it’s football, hockey, fighting, or whatever. With anything real I love to compete… and win. I have been fighting for only about two and half years. Most of my background is in football and ice hockey which I have played since I could breathe. I am a history and science geek so I am always watching animal planet and the history channel. I’m big on family. My mom and dad are my backbone and being the only boy in my entire family, I am extra protective of my sisters especially my younger one. My family is my life.

So how does MMA fit in? How does being a fighter fit in with the person you are?

Since starting MMA it has almost became my life. I try not to let it take over completely but it is a lifestyle not just a sport. I think most fighters would tell you that. I try to keep balance though. I love to workout, spend time with my baby girls, and play football for my alumni team. I am going to school to hopefully one day own my own fitness facility too.

What’s been the hardest thing about being a fighter so far?

The hardest thing by far is the diet. I come from a family who loves to eat, and our choice food is Mexican food so eating healthy and cutting weight comes hard for me.

What about the best thing? What is it you love about competing in MMA?

Honestly my avorite part is the spotlight. I love walking out there and doing it. Hearing your name called and your music playing, there’s nothing like it. Hearing people cheering… it’s just so much adrenaline for me. It’s the best rush in the world.

What’s one word that people would use to describe you?

Motivated. I’m sure most people would use the word “cocky” but I’ll stick with motivated. I have a lot of heart and can’t stand to lose so it pushes me to do better.

What do you know about your SCC 4 opponent Andrew Martinez?

I know he is 3-0 and that’s about it. I don’t look much into who I am fighting. I just like to get an idea of their background then just bring them into my game. I fight like I have nothing to win and everything to lose. I don’t mind fighting in his hometown either. I always feel like the world is against me when I fight and I like it that way. Hopefully I can pull away with the win and put on an excellent show for the crowd. I’m just ready to do this. Training camps are so nerve racking the fight is the easy part. I’m ready to get it on then go eat the most unhealthy thing I can find. May the better man win then we can get a beer together after the fight.

What’s next for you? Any last words?

I already have one middleweight belt so I will probably go defend that next. I am looking to fight Travis “Megaton” Moore again for the third time so we can settle the tie breaker. That will be fun. Oddly enough he is one of the guys in my corner for this fight so you’ll see him Friday too.
