Fresh of Bellator experience Matt Jones looking to test himself again vs. Roger Narvaez at Rock’s Xtreme MMA 2

393878_10150557112744293_1834367126_nSAN ANTONIO, TX, March 21, 2013 – Next up in focus for Saturday’s Rock’s Xtreme MMA 2 event is Brazilian Top Team’s Matt Jones. Winning 4 out of his last 6 fights, Jones is the type of fighter always looking to continuously challenge himself. Such was the case in his last fight when he faced Cortez Coleman at Bellator 86 this past January.  He lost that fight by decision but considers the test just another learning experience, a building block towards where wants to be.

“That fight brings me to where I am now,” he says – feeling upbeat despite the setback. “I’m blessed, lucky; grateful….those are few ways to describe me as a person and as a fighter at this point in my career. Blessed to be doing something I love to do. I’m also lucky to be given the opportunities that I have received and grateful for the support of my fiancée, family, and friends.”

“I lost (to Coleman) by decision but I have made some adjustments and continue to train to win and improve every part of my game. Nothing has changed for me. Tying all my strengths together and performing my best every time I step in the cage or on the mat is the goal. My mindset is to win and be the best middleweight fighter I can be.”

As far as his next fight at Rock’s, he won’t be taken on a lesser challenge or an easier opponent. As a matter of fact he’s taking one of the more highly-touted middleweight prospects in the state in undefeated Roger “Silverback” Narvaez. His opponent will also be walking in as the hometown favorite but that’s not something that bothers Jones.

“I decided to take this fight because I feel it’s a great opportunity to fight in Texas and fight for Rocks/XCP’s organization. I feel it’s a great promotion and will be doing some unexpected things this year. I feel (Roger) is a great matchup for both of us and for the fans. It will be a great show. My training has been as intense as ever and I plan on fighting hard for all 3 rounds. My training has been as intense as ever and I plan on fighting hard for all 3 rounds. This is going to be a good old-fashioned fight.”

“Thank you TXMMA for the chance to be interviewed by you and for doing what you…Even though we have been in this sport as long as anyone it’s still hard for Texas fighters and Jiu-Jitsu fighters to get known, so thank you for all you do putting us out there. HUGE thanks to Val Ramirez with Revolutus Fightwear, Jeremy Grant with BFS Nutrition, and Austin Henrikson/Rafael Perez with Jiboia Jiu-jitsu. Also thank you to my coaches Marcelo Salazar, Vongphet and Sergio Aleman my strength and conditioning coach.”
