DALLAS, TX, February 20, 2013 – With Premier Fight Series 3 (PFS 3) coming up in just a few weeks for Fort Worth fight fans, we decided to catch up with Phalanx Powerhouse fighter Kashiff Solarin to get his thoughts on his fight career so far and his upcoming fight against fellow DFW native Paco Castillo.
Here’s what he had to say in advance of the event scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd at the Guys and Dolls Ballroom.
PFS 3 Interview – Kashiff Solarin (Phalanx Powerhouse)
Kashiff, tell us a little bit about yourself so the fans will have an idea about who you are.
I’m Kashiff Solarin, a young Dallas Texas native with beautiful African roots. My career in fighting has had its little ups and downs but the good thing is I’m still young and have a chance to learn and gain so much more.My mindset right now is I’m very confident in myself and my future. I just need to put the work in and believe in myself to get where I need to be. The main reward of competing that I’m looking for and will get out of fighting is to better myself and my child’s future and do all the things no one ever expected me to do. This has become my passion so quickly. It gave me so much confidence to help find who I am and it’s another puzzle piece that can help define me later on in life. I‘ve put so much time into it and turned away from so many people in my life it would all be foolish to stop now.The biggest thing I want to accomplish is to one day look back at all this when it’s over and have no regrets and to be a world champion sitting at the top of the food chain.
Any stories so far in this crazy fighting world?
Ha, yeah it can be crazy sometimes. Nothing really too crazy ever happens to me though so I guess I’m lucky. Probably the only crazy thing is before each fight I end up forgetting something and go into panic mode looking for it. Most of the time it’s my cup, jockstrap, or mouth guard.
What about outside of training – what’s life like for you?
Life is good for me. I’m alive so I won’t complain. I was dealing with some stuff outside that I thought would affect me for this fight negatively but it motivated me a lot and I’m just so much more focused and I want to get to that day I can step in.
Let’s talk about your upcoming fight. Who are you fighting next and how do you feel about the matchup?
My next opponent is Paco Castillo we are meeting at the weight of 130 lbs. fighting for Premier Fight Series 3 in Fort Worth, TX. I feel really good. I heard he likes to work on his feet. He thinks that something I won’t do with him but I’m going out there to fight smart. There is a huge chance he will get what he wants though.
What can you tell us about your preparations?
My coach Durwyn Lamb the mad scientist and mastermind himself has been helping me get ready as always fine tuning my striking. I’ve been working a lot at Mohler MMA with the fighters over there too and that has been helpful to me for this fight. When I play this fight in my head I am constantly visualizing myself winning. Working with Durwyn Lamb my striking has improved greatly and I’m just so excited to showcase it to everyone.
How do you see this fight playing out?
In the words of Outkast, “You can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t predict the weather.” I just know he is game opponent and will bring it to me and I can very much do the reciprocal.I’m excited to step in there and I know it’s going to be a good fight.
Any last words before fight night Kashiff?
I would love to thank my coach Durwyn Lamb and all the fighters that are a part of Phalanx Powerhouse. Coach Allen Mohler and Johnny Lozano as well and everyone that has helped me at Mohler MMA. My manager Matt Rossini with Imperial Fight Management. Also thanks to my sponsors: Torque Sports and Performance Gear, Robust Energy Drink, Lockout Supplements, everyone who supports, and my beautiful daughter ha I know you can’t read but thank you for always reminding me to strive to be better.
