SAN ANTONIO, TX, September 4, 2012 – On Friday, September 14th, another Texas-based fighter makes the trip up north to Denver, Colorado to compete in Seth Daniel’s Fight to Win promotion and try to take a title back to the lone star state.
The state already has one F2W champion in heavyweight Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis. He’s held that title since his July 2010 win over tough Greeley, CO native Ryan Martinez.
Another Texas tried when Austin’s Adam Schindler went up to Denver this past April to face Chase “Prison Stare” Hackett for the lightweight title at F2W: Superheroes this past April only to leave with a controversial “loss” and a gruesome knee injury in a fight he was by all accounts doing well in.
Now it’s Gilbert “Pitbull” Jimenez taking his turn at the lightweight title as the San Antonio native travels up to Denver to take on Hackett at the F2W: Warriors event scheduled for the National Western Complex less than two weeks from today.
Both men will be looking to lay it on the line in their title bout, featured as the main event of the evening.
For Chase Hackett (5-1), he’s looking to definitely validate the title with his first defense since winning it courtesy of the state of Colorado’s athletic commission over Schindler this past May.
And for the Texan Gilbert Jimenez (6-6-1), he’s once again looking to prove to the world that he’s a much better fighter than his .500 indicates while earning his first professional title in the process.
He last fought at the UWF tournament this past April, losing by KO to Houston’s Rey Trujillo in third round after sustaining a broken hand sometime in the first and gutting it out the rest of the way.
Prior to that, he scored a huge win over another highly-respected Colorado fighter in Scott Cleve (9-3) in the tournament’s opening round to move on in the tournament.
Gilbert “Pitbull” Jimenez also has big fight experience facing the likes of Hector Munoz, Derek Campos, and UFC fighter Daniel Pineda earlier on in his career so he’s faced more than his share of tough competition.
The question is now is whether he’ll finally be able to turn the corner and score the victory against Hackett in the Mile High City.
