VINTON, LA, July 7, 2012 – Chris Reed and Scott Dawson’s IXFA Extreme Fighting returned last night for their 8th event, entitled IFXA 8. Taking place at the Delta Downs Events Center in Vinton, LA, the card would feature 11 fights on the night including an appearance by Reed himself as the 43 year old returned to active competition for the first time since January 2009.
Headlining the event was Beaumont’s own Cody “Wolverine” Williams who would face undefeated Louisianan Todd Matarona with the IXFA bantamweight title in the line. After several tough bouts in a row in the Legacy promotion, including 2 losses in his last 3, it didn’t take long for the ATT product to get back to his winning ways in this one as he was easily able to dispatch of his opponent via first round knockout.
As for current Nassau Bay City Manager Chris “The Celtic Tiger” Reed, he too was able to secure a quick win in his own matchup with BJJ purple belt Jeremy McCombs by virtue of a quick takedown and ground-and-pound attack a mere 45-seconds into the bout. Speculation prior to the bout figured that this fight represented a “one final go” for Reed but that may be premature as the former assistant police chief may have at least one more bout in him. More on that news as it comes.
As for the rest of the card, it featured several other exciting moments with some decent prospects moving their record ahead.
Houston-area fighter Justin Ledet was able to move his record to an impressive 5-0 with a win over Jordan Clissold. Ledet last fought this past January, beating “Hurricane” Ike Villanueva by submission at the IMKF 2 event held in Spring, TX.
Also representing Houston, Urban Jungle’s Stephanie Alba was able to move her record to 2-1 after winning a decision over East Texan Cristina Crist.
Three-time Bellator winner Josh Quayhagen, Eric Cody, Brandon Katakashevich, Andrew Martinez, and Aaron Davis complete the roll call for the night’s winners.
