June 24, 2012 – UFC 147 went down last night in front of a packed house at the Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Headlined by a rematch three years in the making with Wanderlei Silva once again taking on Rich Franklin, UFC 147 was the kind of card that excited fans way more by its substance than its advance billing.
Also featuring the TUF Brazil finals, the event was sapped of star power in the weeks prior with VItor Belfort getting injured and having to pull out of his planned main event with Silva along with Ultimate Fighter Brazil finalist Daniel Sarafian getting injured and having to pull out of his own bout.
Thankfully their replacements and all the bouts in general on the night performed up to par.
Rich Franklin beats Wanderlei Silva once again
In the featured bout of the evening, Rich “Ace” Franklin beat Wanderlei Silva for the second time by way of unanimous decision in their five round main event.
The Ohio native was mostly in control for the majority of the fight, keeping Silva at the end of his jab and scoring points with his technical striking. “The Axe Murderer” was not without his moments though as he rocked Franklin in the second round and in typical Silva style, went to try and maul his dazed opponent for the finish. Fortunately for the American, he was able to make it to the bell and recovered to start the third while Wanderlei seemed to have spent all his energy. It was all Rich from there to earn himself the nod on the judges’ scorecards.
Mutante and Rony win inaugural TUF Brazil season titles
In the first Brazilian edition of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, Cezar Ferreira and Rony Mariano Mezerra were able to win at middleweight and featherweight respectively.
Cezar Mutante would have to deal with BJJ specialist Sergio Moraes (Alliance) in this one after original finalist Daniel Sarafian had to bow out due to injury. Serginho would ffight valiantly in this one but had no match for the all-around MMA game of his opponent in this one as Cezar picked up the unanimous decision along with the title of Ultimate Fighter in this one.
Meanwhile, Rony Mariano Bezerra faced little trouble from Godofredo Castro on his side of the TUF finals as he was able to gain the unanimous decision in the 145 lbs. finals to secure himself a UFC contract.
