July 22, 2012 – The UFC concluded its latest event on cable TV earlier tonight with UFC on FX 4: “Maynard vs. Guida” taking place in Atlantic City, NJ.

Coming off his title trilogy with former champ Frankie Edgar, the always relentless Gray Maynard was expected to face another stiff challenge in the form of the high-energy Clay Guida. Instead what he got was a bizarre performance from his opponent that frustrated him in the same way another Team Jackson fighter Carlos Condit did in his fight with Nick Diaz.

This time around, the judges awarded the victory to the clear aggressor in this one with Gray waking away with the split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47) after five rounds of action.

Elsewhere on the card, Texan TJ Waldurger lost a narrow decision to veteran Brian Ebersole. TJ would come out strong in fight winning the first round by outpositioning his opponent and threatening a choke. He would go on to do the same in the second stanza, attemping submissions every time Ebersole took him to the floor.

It was more of the same in the third with Ebersole pressuring from the top and Waldburger looking to find his opportunity out of the guard. In the end, the judges saw things Brian’s way to give his 11th straight win in a row after this close fight.

Sam Stout and Cub Swanson would complete the winners circle on the main card with wins over Spencer Fisher and Ross Pearson respectively.

Here are the full results below.
