CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, June 22, 2012 – Making his way back to Corpus to compete on the June 30th Ultimate Warrior MMA card is none other than undefeated flyweight Jimmy “The Brick” Flick.
Coming up under Hector Munoz, Marcus Aurelio, and crew at FCFA / Paragon, Jimmy breezed his way through the amateur ranks beginning in 1999 with 7 straight wins, all by submission. Turning pro in May 2010, the South Texan transplant would continue that success on the professional level with five wins in a row – including his last, a likely TXMMA Sub of the Year candidate with his Von Flue choke victory over Randy Villarreal at STFC 19 this past Match.
“It hasn’t been easy,” he says about his road in MMA so far.
With marriage, a new baby girl, and a move to Sand Springs, Oklahoma to be closer to his family and start his own MMA academy all factoring into the equation, a lot has changed for the 21 year old. Despite it all though he remains adamant about chasing his dream of one day being considered the best flyweight in the world.
“I’d like to accomplish a 3-fight win streak in 2012,” he says about his immediate goal. Adan De La Garza stands in his way next Saturday night at the American Bank Center but he’s looking also looking ahead to potential fights with Chad Robichaux and/or Will Campuzano – two guys fighting for a flyweight title under the Legacy banner.
“Everyone knows I want Chad Robo,” he says. But if Will wins the fight between them two, I’ll fight him for the title. I still think it should be me anyway (considered the best flyweight in the state) because all four of my pro wins are at 125 lbs. I’m the top 125’er in Texas.”
Looking ahead to next weekend, Jimmy is looking forward to prove that point in front of a hometown crowd in Corpus Christi – the place he considers his second home.
“It feels great to be able to fight in front of the town that made me who I am in MMA. Everyone can expect nothing less than an action packed fight when I get in the cage. I know he (Adan De La Garza) trains out of a really good gym and has a solid ground game but I’m coming into this fight like I come into every fight and that’s ready to get my hand raised at the end.”
