HOUSTON, TX, June 19, 2012 – The next event to hit the Houston area comes this Saturday night with CDM Promotions’ Elite Amateur Combat 3 event scheduled for the North West Indoor Soccer venue on 14647 Walters Road.

The night will feature two title fights with James Powell (Fight Science) taking on Michael Alvarez (Metro Fight Club) in a welterweight title fight and Manny Lozoya (Silverback MMA) going for his second amateur title against Cesar Del Angel (KO Boxing).

Nine additional bouts are planned for the undercard. Among them is one featuring Paradigm Training Center’s Edgar Juárez. Though he’s only been participating in MMA for less than a year, Edgar has been busy with 3 wins in a row after losing his debut fight by submission. He’ll now look to take that winning streak to four at CDM when he takes on debuting Samuel Saldana out of Third Coast Fight Club.

TXMMA recently caught up with up with Edgar to discuss this Saturday’s fight.

EAC 3 Pre-Fight Interview – Edgar Juárez (Paradigm Training Center)

How did you get into training MMA? Why do you love the sport?

I just wanted to train BJJ at first because all my life I’ve done standup sports like full contact karate, muay thai, and boxing. I really like MMA because is the ultimate challenge and because I’ve always been a martial art practitioner.

At what point did you decide you wanted to fight?

Ever since the first day I remember I told the guys at paradigm that I was going to represent them. My first fight was 4 months after I stepped in the gym.

What do you think will make you good at this sport in the long-run?

My work ethic, discipline, determination, but mainly having lots of heart.

Other than MMA, what other sports/hobbies are you into? What do you do for fun when you’re not training?

I do a lot. I am a full time delivery man for amazon.com, part-time university student at UH-Downtown, and I’m also involved in my church. It’s crazy but the main thing I do for fun is training.

What’s your thought process heading into this Saturday?

I just want to keep getting better and to show my unique style. My main motivation is success, but I also want to show others how great MMA is.

Who’s helped you get ready for this one?

Igor Santos (BJJ), coach Grant Johnson (wrestling), coach Gulled Ahmed (muay thai), Jeff Rexroad, Colin Wright, Coach Altman, Lester Batres, Mike Bronzoulis, and all the guys from Paradigm.

What can the crowd expect from you?

Lots of heart here and my unique style – I like to bang!

Any predictions as far as how you expect to win?

KO or stoppage, but whatever it takes will do.

Any plans after this one?

Fight on the next cage combat and 2 more fights in amateur, and then go pro.

Any last words?

I just want to thank all my team mates and coaches for all the support and friendship.
