XKO 15 Pre-fight Interview – Armando “The Latin Assassin” Servin

Update (May 28, 2012) – Armando Servin has pulled out of this fight due to undisclosed reasons. (injury?) Keith Miner is now fighting on another card the following weekend.

IRVING, TX, May 28, 2012 – We’re less than a week away from MMA action in the DFW area with XKO 15 set to take place this Saturday, June 2nd at The Gym in Arlington. The card features some great matchups including UFC veteran Jake Rosholt taking on Matt Thompson and more.

We’ll profile several of this weekend’s fighters and matchups here on TXMMA.com.

We begin with 33 year old Armando Servin.

Known to his fans as “The Latin Assasin,” Armando experienced success at the amateur level winning all five of his fights before turning pro in December 2011 at XKO 13. He experienced his first career loss that night to Donnie Bell but quickly rebounded four months later with a win over Jordan Morgan at STFC 20.

He’ll now look to extend that streak to two pro wins in a row this Saturday when he takes on 5-3 Keith Miner. Read on and get his thoughts prior to the bout.

XKO 15 Interview – Armando “The Latin Assassin” Servin

How are you feeling heading into this fight? Any insight on your preparations?

I feel fantastic! I’m confident, prepared and excited about my fight on June 2nd against Keith Miner. Since the beginning, my preparation and execution of my training camps are of utmost importance to me. We develop a camp based on the opponent’s strengths and weakness. We work hard and smart and put in the necessary time to train, recover and analyze our progress. We work together (team) with the same goal in mind, “To win.”

What’s defined you as a fighter and person in the last few years?

Fighting does not define me. There’s no clear answer as to what defines me. I am work in progress. I fight because it is something I love to do. When you love something you make the time for it. My life outside the cage is like everyone else’s. I work, I love my family, I strive to be a better human being.

What’s your source of motivation heading into this fight in particular?

I want to be the best fighter I can be. I want to evolve!!! I want to fight on the biggest stage in the world! I have a resiliency that I cannot explain. There’s a fiery passion that’s forges and continues to grow in my soul. I was born to fight. It feels natural to me.

What is your occupation outside MMA? Any other responsibilities aside from training?

I work for a major Telecom Company. I have my family that I care for and love with all my might. They are my main responsibility.

What’s the toughest thing you have to deal with in order to be the best fighter you can be?

The toughest thing to do is balancing my time.

Do you follow a specific diet leading up to a fight?

A fighter’s diet is very important. It’s just as important as the fight training. You must treat it, feed it and maintain it well. As my fighting career continues, I’ve become better at tweaking my nutritional needs. It is difficult at times to be so strict with the proper nutritional intake but the human body is a remarkable and adaptable organism.

What’s the best advice you’ve given or been given when it comes to MMA?

The best advice I have received indirectly about MMA was from Bruce Lee teachings. He created the blueprint as to how to evolve and grow as a fighter. You must learn to flow like water. I’m beginning to actually understand and attempting to execute such theory.

What’s your opinion on your XKO 15 opponent Keith Miner?

He is fighter to me. We fight that’s what we do. We get offered a fight and we sign on the dotted line and we go to battle. In the end, there can be only one victor.

Any thoughts on how this fight plays out?

He will do what he does; I will do what I do. The only predication I will make is that “I come to fight.”

Any last words or anybody you want to thank before Saturday?

I would like to thank God for giving me the gifts I possess to fight. My family, I love you dearly and there’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do for you. Thanks to all the friends and fight fans that support us. Thank you XKO promotions for the opportunity to fight in the cage once again. Cuba, Jose Reyes, Paco y George los aprecio mucho!
