HOUSTON, TX, April 30, 2012 – 4OZ Fight Club hosted another friendly No-GI submission grappling tournament this past Saturday at their facility in the Cypress/Jersey Village area. Featuring a format designed specifically to favor submissions instead of points (which were not counted), the semi-regular Gi-less event once again showcased a more free-flowing style in matches as competitors would only get three minutes to finish their opponents. Add to that the round-robin style circuit where everyone in a bracket got to roll with everyone else and it was a fun time as things never stopped moving until the whole thing ended.
With the rules structured as they were, it came as no surprise that many active MMA fighters from around the area showed up to get some work in and coach the kids participating in the youth portion of the event.
There were representatives from Bushi Ban (Alex Black, Gerzan Chaw), Paradigm (Colin Wright, etc.), Silverback Fight Club (Jacob Silva, Eric Thompson, etc.) , and several other teams present.
In the end, Renan Chavez of Zion MMA who also instructs at 4OZ Fight Club held serve on his home court with a victory in his division and the open class to win the day in the men’s adult classes while the De Leon sisters performed admirably to win out in the youth divisions.
