Alvin Tillman (Gold Team)

HOUSTON, TX, April 5, 2012 –Today we received a few updates from Grand Prix Grappling’s Elbert Hebron on the superfights scheduled for his upcoming Texas International Grappling Festival tournament on April 14th in Houston.

As we told you guys in our announcement yesterday, the scheduled instructor superfight between Renan Chavez ( 4OZ Fight Club / Zion MMA) and Travis Tooke (Team Tooke) is still slated for the main event of the day with plenty of discussion happening already on our TXMMA Facebook Page regarding who Houston-area grappling fans think will win this No-GI battle between two of Houston’s top grappling and MMA coaches.

Likewise, we also announced a GI matchup between two of Texas’ top brown belts in Clay Copeland (TPC) and Julian Vega (Elite MMA). Sadly, this matchup is no longer happening due to an injury sustained by Clay but the good is that there has already been a replacement named as Alvin Tillman of Gold Team will now step in to take on Vega. Like the Chavez/Tooke matchup, we don’t recall these two having faced each other in competition before so it should be very interesting to see who comes out on top in this 170 lbs. matchup.

In addition to these two matchups, Hebron also let us know of a third superfight – this time in the black belt division with perennial superfight participant and Solis Martial Arts Head Coach Alvis Solis taking on incoming challenger Todd Pisarich. Anybody who’s been around the Texas grappling scene over the past few years or longer has probably seen Alvis compete. Admittedly, we haven’t seen as much of his opponent Todd Pisarich but do know he’s trained under Helio Soneca and has run his academy in Ocean Springs, Mississipi for some time. No word yet on what brings him to Texas but this should be an interesting one.

Want to discuss these matchups, hop on our TXMMA Facebook Page and let us know who you think wins on April 14th.
