This time around, it wasn’t a Thanksgiving dinner we’re referring to or a dysfunctional family dinner but rather another rendition of “Family Fun Night” at Houston’s 4OZ Fight Club that was this past Saturday at their location off 1960 and Jones Road.
As the home to many pros including the UFC’s Daniel Pineda, 4OZ has developed a reputation as a destination of choice for career-minded fighters looking to hone their skills in preparation for the big leagues. Yet they’ve developed these events in order to give tomorrow’s mixed martial artists a platform to get some experience in front of a crowd as well. The events are more glorified exhibition sessions than legit MMA fight, with rules in place to make sure the sparring doesn’t get out hand and the would-be fighters are protected. Still though, it’s a whole lot of fun.
This time around, 4OZ trainer Jeremy Mahon borrowed from the concept popularized on the MTV show “Bully Beatdown.”
Burgeoning talents were given an opportunity to step in for one round of grappling and one round of kickboxing inside the 4OZ cage in order to get a taste of what components make up an MMA fight.
