SAN ANTONIO, TX, December 8, 2011 – This weekend will be one to watch for Alamo City residents as RPBJJ’s Daniel Pinheiro makes his United States MMA debut. Ever since arriving stateside to train with brother Rodrigo at his namesake academy in the north side of the city, Daniel has devoted much of his time to helping develop the team’s up-and-coming fighters for competition while teaching five classes a day. Aside from that, he’s also been quietly getting ready for his own fight while training with his students, his brother, and veterans such as Aaron Rosa, Pete Spratt, and recent Ultimate Fighter season winner Diego Brandao.

A lifelong devotee of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and MMA while growing up in Brazil, Daniel has devoted over half his life to the sport. He started training at 11 years old at the urging of his grandmother, who wanted him off the streets where he says he got beat up a lot. Channeling his energy into jujitsu instead, Daniel honed his skills throughout the years – first with Ulisses Paixao and then with Royler Gracie and the Gracie Humaita team. Now a BJJ black belt and 1-0 in MMA, Pinheiro is looking for a win this Saturday when he takes on Filberto Martinez at Evolution Combat Sports Championship 2 in Clovis, New Mexico.

“I’m going to win this fight because I trust in God and I’ve been training very hard. Whoever has been training harder will win this fight and I’m very confident in my work. Thanks to God first then thanks to my brother and my family, Pete Spratt, and all my friends and students for their support! Also thanks to my sponsors – MMA Overload, Manual, and Tim Morris.”
