AUSTIN, TX, December 1, 2011 – We sure are cranking them out this week as far as interviews go! Up next on our docket is Austin resident Andre Kavanaugh. At 2-1 as a pro after taking an impressive 12 fights as an amateur in order to prepare himself, this 22 year old fancies himself as a fighter destined for big thing. He’ll look to showcase that this Saturday at XKO 13 when he takes on fellow prospect Hayward Charles.

Interview – Andre Kavanaugh

Andre, first of all, how are you feeling heading into this Saturday night’s fight?

I feel good; I’ve been training and working hard staying on track with my conditioning.

For our readers that haven’t seen you fight yet, can you tell us a little about your history in the sport and what they can expect when they see you fight?

Sure. I’m 22 years old and I was born and raised in Austin. I’m definitely a local Austinite. I started my MMA training back in 2008 at the Austin Xtreme Sparring (AXS) facility. Then after turning pro, I moved over to Monolith Training Center.

As for my style, well I’m not your usual fighter. I don’t have a particular style. I move around with different styles, blending each into something uniquely mine. So always expect the unexpected.

What are your hobbies outside of training and fighting?

Like I said, I’m your typical Austinite, pretty much. I like the outdoors, biking, spending time along the lake shores, playing football with friends, that type of thing.

What else don’t we know about Andre Kavanaugh?

I’m actually kind of a quiet, reserved person. I enjoy a calm and peaceful environment where I can think and reflect on what I’m doing with training, my career, and what I need to do to achieve my goals.

What does this Saturday’s fight mean to you?

It’s another opportunity, another step on that path to becoming the UFC Middleweight Champion one day.

How are you approaching this fight with Hayward Charles?

I believe he (H. Charles) presents a challenge for me that’s kept me focused on countering his strengths and abilities. What they could expect from this fight is seeing my adaptability to the situation, whether standing up or on the ground. Something that from the past, was not seen nor expected from me.

What are your future goals after this fight?

Continue learning and training; as well as gearing up for my next fight in Oklahoma, Jan.14th. It’s my first title fight, which I’m looking forward to.

Why should fans watch out for you?

My current fan base loves the strength and passion in my fighting and will continue to see that from me. My future fans will see my on-going growth within the sport. I hope that the passion and excitement I bring will ignite theirs for the sport too.

Any last words before the fight?

Thanks to family, friends, and trainers and supporters that have been there for me from the beginning.
