September 24, 2011 – Two Houstonians put on valiant efforts towards opposite results last night at Paradigm TC’s Brian Melancon and Gracie Barra Magnolia’s Todd Moore competed on the main card of Srikeforce Challengers 19: “Larkin vs. Rossborough” at the Palms Casino Resort in Les Vegas, Nevada.

In the opening bout of the night Melancon would go in against an undefeated Brazilian with an eye towards redemption after a disputed judges’ call robbed him of victory in his first Stikeforce bout this past June against New Mexico fighter Isaac Vallie-Flagg after taking the fight on short notice.

This time around, the powerful and well-prepared Brian Melancon would take on California-based Brazilian Felipe Portela with a full training camp behind him and it showed.

The two would put on an exciting opening fight performance for fans.

Brian showcased his explosive power and meat-clubbing hooks along with his superior wrestling to move forward and continually attack against his opponent. For his part, Portela tried mightily to stay in the game against Melancon but in the end, the Houstonian was simply too much both on the feet and on the ground.

Ultimately, this fight would end in a unanimous decision in favor of Melancon.

Up next for Houston, “The Maniac” Todd Moore would take on the toughest challenge of his young career against fellow DREAM veteran Jason High – who holds wins over Hayato “Mach” Sakurai and André Galvão to his credit.

This fight was characterized by High’s superior wrestling as the majority of the contest was spent on the gRD with Jason putting Todd on his back and controlling him there with gRD and pound and few submission attempts.

After fifteen minutes of action, this one would end with a unanimous decision in favor of the “The Kansas City Bandit.”
