HOUSTON, TX, July 12, 2011 – It was officially announced yesterday that the Legacy Fighting Championship promotion has signed Brazilian vale tudo legend and head coach of Gold Team Texas Jorge “Macaco” Patino to appear at the main event of this fall’s Legacy FC 8 event scheduled in Houston.
In his first appearance for Legacy, Jorge Patino will be fighting for the Legacy 170 title belt vacated by former champion Mike “The Greek” Bronzoulis after he signed a long-term contract with the Strikeforce promotion. Though Patino’s has not yet been determined, many speculate the winner of the July 22nd Legacy bout between UFC and HDNet veteran Pete “The Secret Weapon” Spratt and IXFA 170 champion Antonio “King Kong” Flores may be tapped to face the burly Brazilian.
“I feel awesome about this move. It is a good challenge for me. Legacy is a big show in Texas and I am excited to get my title,” said Macaco in a statement released on LegacyFights.tv.
Also recently announced were a few more tidbits about the Legacy FC 8 event scheduled for September 17th.
Looking ahead the event, Chad “Robo” Robichaux intends on making his flyweight debut in September in a rematch with Humberto Deleon. The two first met at Strikeforce: Houston. Prior to the bout, it was speculated that the Gracie Barra Woodlands patriarch would crush his smaller opponent but that was not the case as Humberto put on a spirited performance, even dropping Robo momentarily en route to a split decision win for Robichaux.
Looking to take care on unfinished business, Chad will now try and win convincingly against Deleon the second time around. If he can get past Jonathan Mackles on July 22nd and then win the Legacy 125 title in his rematch with Deleon, it may just be enough for “Robo” to graduate the UFC and their soon-to-be-started flyweight division.
Below are all the bouts tentatively scheduled for Legacy FC 8 thus far.
