Xtreme Knockout (XKO) 11 on TXA 21 – Fight Card Preview for July 23rd

ARLINGTON, TX, July 07, 2011 – The Xtreme Knockout (XKO) organization is about two weeks away from their first LIVE taping for CBS Dallas / Fort Worth affiliate TXA 21 on July 23rd.

To be held at the XKO Arena aka The Gym, XKO 11 features an exciting card of action headlined by a bantamweight title fight with current champion Steven “Ocho” Peterson defending against surging undefeated challenger Alex Russ.

As defending champion Steven Peterson was last seen winning the XKO strap in a majority decision win over previous challenge Douglas Frey at XKO 10. While “Ocho” won that hard-fought contest, the outcome was hotly debated afterwards as an errant knee by the challenger caused the bout to go directly to the judges’ scorecards before its planned conclusion. Now facing a new challenger in Alex “Warpath” Russ, the champion is looking to put on a show and give area fans something entirely new to talk about.

XKO Bantamweight Champion Steven 'Ocho' Peterson

As the challenger in this bout, Alex Russ is focused more than ever at attaining his first professional belt at XKO. Working towards this goal, Russ was actually set to fight for a belt in New Jersey’s Ring of Combat organization before making his way onto the headlining bout of XKO 11 instead. Known by many to be as dominating as they come in the lighter weight divisions, “Warpath” has finished all three of his professional opponents by TKO or submission.

With both fighters featured known for being exciting fighters that have the ability to end fights at a moment’s notice, looking for this championship bout to be worth the price of admission for fans in attendance and those watching on TXA 21.

Supporting the championship main event be many returning veterans for the Xtreme Knockout organization in the form of some of the Dallas / Fort Worth area’s top professional mixed martial artists along with some talented out-of-towners.

Perhaps as redemption-minded as ever, ADCC-bound top grappler JJ Holmes makes his return to XKO after dropping his first fight via decision in an out of town bout at Undisputed MMA. This time, JJ won’t be the one with the zero to protect as he takes on undefeated 1-0 fighter Jose Sanchez, who was last seen winning his professional debut in the SWC organization via armbar submission.

Next up on the card is returning veteran Chris Pecero from Corpus Christie taking on Burt McDonald. Pecero will be looking to rebound from his last loss to Chris Jones in an XKO welterweight title fight and climb back into contender status by defeating 1-0 Burt McDonald.

Also of note on the main draw is the appearance of San Antonio’s Chris “Kano” Gregoire as he takes on Texas fighting veteran Brandon McDowell in yet another welterweight showdown. “Kano” is looking for his second win in a row and sixth in his last seven by taking on his most experienced opponent yet. Fighting since the dawn of the Texas MMA (prev. “NHB”) scene, Austin’s Brandon McDowell will draw on over eleven years of professional experience and his well-chronicled submission background to stymie the ascent of his conquest-minded opponent.

The rest of the main card is filled with many more up-and-coming prospects including James Vick, Eliasar Rodriguez, Hayward Charles, Josh Foster, Steve Hess and more so stay tuned here on TXMMA.com as we deliver the most in-depth coverage of XKO 11 and the entire MMA scene you’ll see anywhere in Texas.
