May 19, 2011 – In a landmark moment for Houston’s flagship MMA promotion, the Legacy Fighting Championship has come to agreement with HDNet to showcase their next summer event, set for July 22nd at the Houston Arena Theater, LIVE on the nation’s premier fight network.
With mainstay programs such as Inside MMA, The Voice Vs. (featuring Michael Schiavello), and much more in their fight vault, HDNet has long been committed to bringing quality MMA programming to the masses as “Your home for MMA.”
Now Legacy FC will join an elite class of MMA promotions including Dream and K-1 as one of the few selected to be broadcast live to your own homes here in Texas and beyond.
With such a lofty stage set to serve as a showcase for a possible longer-term broadcast deal with HDNet or other networks, matchmaker Collin Cantrell believes the timing is right for both Legacy FC and Houston area fighters to make a lasting impression.
“I definitely like when we started planning out this card, our goal was to get on a big-time network,” says Collin. “We hadn’t even had contact with HDNet yet when this we started setting up this card but we felt like the time was ripe to make a card that would be truly worthy of getting on TV.
We feel like it’s our time. We wanted to use Houston fighters that are or could be ranked nationally. Guys like Carlo Prater, Daniel Pineda, Chad Robicheaux, and more… along with some other big names like ‘Ultimate Fighter’ vet Cameron Dollar and WEC-vet Frank Gomez.
We said why not take advantage of what San Jose was doing (ala Strikeforce)? Build it and they will come, right? We definitely feel like this one (July event) could be our biggest ever, and in my opinion, maybe even the biggest that’s come through Texas outside of maybe the UFC and Strikeforce. It’s definitely as big as anything we’ve ever seen in Houston so I’m excited.”
