UPDATE – May 25, 2011 – Changes abound for the card as Mike Bronzoulis has been called up to fight on the June 18th Strikeforce card against fellow Houstonian Todd Moore in the first fight of both men’s freshly-minted Zuffa contracts. It’s speculated that Brian Melancon, a Paradigm teammate of “The Greek,” will be called on to step in as a likely replacement against Pete Spratt. Also updated for the card is a change in the main event, as it will be Colorado’s Cameron Dollar, taking on Carlo Prater in lieu of Efrain Escudero as initially reported. Stay tuned for more on this card as it comes to us.
May 21, 2011 – It was previously here on TXMMA.com that Pete Spratt (41-19) would be fighting in the main event of MFC: Up Close and Personal against Marcus Davis in a show scheduled to air on HDNet on June 10th at 9PM Texas time.
Now, barring any unforeseen circumstances, it looks like “The Secret Weapon” will be fighting on HDNet twice in two months time as it was announced today that Spratt has been scheduled to take on Mike “The Greek” Bronzoulis at the Legacy Fighting Championship on their July 22nd show in Houston.
A former cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter 4,” Spratt is a long-time veteran of the sport, and the Texas fight scene for that matter. Sharpening his Muay Thai skill under legendary trainer Saekson Janjira, Pete made his bones here in the Lonestar State with his first seven fights during 1999-2000 before ultimately making his UFC debut two years later. Since then, Spratt has amassed a resume including fights with Carlos Newton, Georges St. Pierre, and Robbie Lawler, just to name a few.
Taking him on will be the Legacy welterweight champion, Mike Bronzoulis. Also a veteran of the Texas scene, “The Greek” most recently won at Shark Fights 14 against Lucas Lopes of American Top Team and has won his last four fights in a row (12-2-1). A Houston-native, Bronzoulis will no doubt be the crowd favorite fighting on the big stage in front of his hometown.
This latest bout joins an already-stacked HDNet fight card for Legacy FC 7 that already included WEC/Strikeforce veteran Carlo Prater taking on former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ contender Cameron Dollar along with bouts including Bellator-vet Chad Robichaux and former-Power Ranger-turned-Fighter Jason David Frank.
Pete Spratt vs. Mike Bronzoulis will take place on July 22nd at the Houston Arena Theater in Houston, TX. For more info on the Legacy Fighting Championship and the full fight card, please view the initial announcement here.
